Meet Hemingway, the library cat.

He has literally lived around my library branch for six years now & we think he was abandoned . For the last two years that I have worked there, he has always run away from everyone.

Monday night upon leaving, he came out up to me meowing. Tuesday morning, the same.

He had two infected teeth & some flea infestation otherwise in good health. He now has a clean bill of health after all the vet care.

ElizaMarie He is beautiful! 10mo

TW: suicide, depression

#OnThisDay in 1961 Ernest Hemingway was found dead of a shotgun wound to the head. His wife claimed he was cleaning his gun at the time, but the death has since been ruled a suicide. The Pulitzer and Nobel Prize winning author fought depression (his 'black dog days') most of his life. His suggested (but never used) epitaph was "Pardon me for not getting up." #HistoryGetsLIT

This is probably one of the better documentaries I have seen. What an amazing life! It makes one reflect on their own life and the lack of life changing accomplishments. 🤔

Download the PBS app and check it out.

“The world breaks everyone, and afterward, some are strong at the broken places.” Ernest Hemingway

Are you watching the new film “Hemingway” by Ken Burns?

TheBookHippie Yes. LOVED it. 4y
SamAnne Loved it. 4y
DGRachel Part 3 was heartbreaking. All those concussions and brain trauma, then the doctors who just made things worse. 😔 4y

Loving my Hemingway Collection. Approx 133 so far. Lots of first editions. These make me very happy. #hemingway #classics #collection #oldbooks

For we have thought the longer thoughts and gone the shorter way. And we have danced to devils' tunes, shivering home to pray. To serve one master in the night, another in the day.

"Write drunk, edit sober." Does that also apply to academic papers?

MrBook 😂👏🏻🙌🏻🍻 7y
QuoteQueen Yes, yes it does. I've TOTALLY written a philosophy paper drunk once. Frankly, it was amazing, at least that's what the professor thought anyways. 😉 7y
The_Literary_Jedi This is my personal writing mantra & will (one day soon) be a bookish tattoo 🤘🏽 so, chug-a-lug and type away! 🙌🏽🙌🏽 7y

The bar I'm at has an Ernest Hemingway quote on the wall, but they spelled "Hemingway" with two m's. Am I laughing or crying?
