In the race to control renewable power, an energy giant stumbles on a controversial technology: the ability to transport matter from the deep past. Their biggest secret is New Pompeii, a replica city filled with Romans, pulled through time just before the volcanic eruption. Nick Houghton doesnt know why hes been chosen to be the companys historical advisor. Hes just excited to be there. Until he starts to wonder what happened to his predecessor. Until he realizes that the company has more secrets than even the conspiracy theorists suspect. Until he realizes that they have underestimated their captives

4/5💚s

This one won‘t hit you in the feels but you‘re gonna need a sharp mind keeping hold of the details of what‘s going on. Which is great! This is an awesome mix of thriller, mystery, sci-fi, and historical fiction. It seems to tell 2 stories which merge near the end (details people). Gripping problem solving story with some history and a pretty amusing main character. So, now I need to find book 2 in the series ASAP! 😜

speljamr I have this book on my shelf. There's a second one? 7y
Librarianaut Great blurb!!! 7y
QuoteQueen @speljamr Aparently! I had no idea till I bought this one and it said the second one was coming out in June 2017. And here I wasn‘t trying to start another series. But so glad I did. 😜 (edited) 7y

I've raced through this time travel/thriller/sci-fi sequel to the tagged book. Set in the near future when NovusPart has the ability to move people forward in time, including the town of Pompeii. Head scratching, fast paced and deeply enjoyable!

Love time travel books and this one reconstructs Pompeii into our timeline. Like that it was a different storyline then just sending someone to the past and having to figure out how to get them back. Pompeii is just a good setting to use, the author could have added a little bit more facts on the ash laden city but I still liked it. He mentioned Herculaneum so kudos for that!

What would happen if you saved the people of Pompeii before it was destroyed? And brought them to a replica of their town in an attempt to have a real Roman town in modern times. What are the consequences of bringing people from the past to the future? Can you trust someone with this power? If you like scifi and history/alternate history check out this book. Looks like book 2 is coming out next year.

Important thing to remember when recreating a city and taking the inhabitants from the past. Carrots weren't originally orange. Small details can make something fail.

Couldn't decide what to read during lunch so I grabbed the ARC copy I've had laying around for a few months. Interesting concept and there's a ghost character who's role I'm unsure of.
