Seven Lies | Elizabeth Kay

The mesmerizing and unsettling debut thriller everyone will be talking about in 2020 'One of the most interesting and compelling narrators I've ever encountered' SHARI LAPENA, bestselling author of THE COUPLE NEXT DOOR 'Chilling and original' CLARE MACKINTOSH, bestselling author of LET ME LIE 'This is going to be the next massive thriller' PANDORA SYKES 'Keep the lights on - you'll be turning the pages deep into the night with this one' HARLAN COBEN, bestselling author of FOOL ME ONCE 'You won't want to put this one down' CARA HUNTER, bestselling author of CLOSE TO HOME 'You NEED to read this one' LESLEY KARA, bestselling author of THE RUMOUR _______________ It all started with one little lie . . . Jane and Marnie have been inseparable since they were eleven years old. They have a lot in common. In their early twenties they both fell in love and married handsome young men. But Jane never liked Marnie's husband. He was always so loud and obnoxious, so much larger than life. Which is rather ironic now, of course. Because if Jane had been honest - if she hadn't lied - then perhaps her best friend's husband might still be alive . . . This is Jane's opportunity to tell the truth, the question is: Do you believe her?

#roll100 read - This was ok. I guessed some of the twists along the way and wasn‘t quite as gripping as some of the reviews make out

There was potential here, but it ultimately fell flat for me. I didn‘t like Jane at all, she was unreliable, crazy (but not in an interesting way), and too needy. The seven lies were futile and added nothing to the story. Book #71 in 2022

I thought this book was interesting and kept waiting for the big reveal. I was so glad that it didn‘t happen until the very end! There were moments where the book lagged, and where there could have been better character development (her sister and her husband), but overall I thought this was an easy and fun page turner!

I enjoyed this but didn‘t love it. Jane and Marnie are lifelong friends. Jane, the narrator, takes us through the years and the seven lies she told her friend, and the consequences!

It‘s not fast-paced, but I wanted to know what would happen. It‘s one of those potentially unreliable narrators, as you wonder if Jane is telling the truth, or what really happened. I‘m not sure I really liked any of the characters, but that didn‘t change that it was still compelling reading for me.
