From the creator of the hit TV series The Bold Type comes an empowering and heartfelt novel about a future female president's senior year of high school. Ava, CJ, Jordan, and Martha (listed in alphabetical order out of fairness) have been friends since kindergarten. Now they're in their senior year, facing their biggest fears about growing up and growing apart. But there's more than just college on the horizon. One of these girls is destined to become the president of the United States. The mystery, of course, is which girl gets the gig. Is it Ava, the picture-perfect artist who's secretly struggling to figure out where she belongs? Or could it be CJ, the one who's got everything figured out...except how to fix her terrible SAT scores? Maybe it's Jordan, the group's resident journalist, who knows she's ready for more than their small Ohio suburb can offer. And don't overlook Martha, who will have to overcome all the obstacles that stand in the way of her dreams. This is the story of four best friends who have one another's backs through every new love, breakup, stumble, and success--proving that great friendships can help young women achieve anything...even a seat in the Oval Office.

This was only okay for me. The second half was better than the first. In theory, there was a diverse cast of characters, but they weren't fleshed out well and seemed all the same at the core. I would often forget who was who. In the second half, they suddenly seemed to get personalities and identity, but then it was over before we really got to know them. I did like the ending, but as a fan of The Bold Type, I must admit that I was disappointed.

I adored this, start to finish! Four best friends who are always there to support each other and be cheerleaders for each other, on the cusp of high school graduation, figuring themselves out. The mystery element was super fun and kept me guessing!! Thank you @LiteraryinLawrence for lending this to me!! I will definitely read more by Watson.

LiteraryinPA Oh yay! I‘m so glad you liked it too! 3y

As I get older, YA is hit or miss for me so I was surprised by how much I liked this. The prologue tells us that one of these girls grows up to become POTUS but we don't find out which until the end. Along the way the story deals with many issues: depression, adoption, community service, financial struggles, disability, sexuality, and how to find your way in the world. But most of all this is about 4 friends who love and support each other ⬇️

bookandbedandtea Unconditionally. I feel like I haven't read enough stories like this 4y
LiteraryinPA I have loaned this out to many friends! It was really interesting! 4y
bookandbedandtea @LiteraryinLititz I'm definitely going to recommend it to my daughter 😊 4y

A fun story about 4 best friends that take friendship very seriously & are always there for each other. I liked that they‘re all different, but the friendships are genuine. One of these four becomes the future president of the U.S. & the reader doesn‘t find out until the end. -my guess kept changing throughout the story, but I wasn‘t surprised or disappointed in who ends up being Madam President! #mostlikely #audiobook #sarahwatson #friendship

I LOVE this premise: one of these high school seniors will become President of the United States, but readers don‘t find out which one until the end. It was a little slow in the beginning trying to keep track of who was who & I expected more snark from a book by the creator of The Bold Type, but in the end I really enjoyed it. There was enough mystery to keep me guessing & an unexpected twist right before the reveal. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I thought the beginning was slow to get moving. The girls are seniors and all 4 best friends. One of them, we are told, will become the president of the US. But which one? I thought the struggles with family, adoption issues, and socioeconomic status were very well done. Also, the marginalization of people with physical disabilities, and handling of mental health issues.

rjsthumbelina However, I really wish the author would have gone harder for the racial issues that just peak out at the surface of the story sometimes. It was a 3 and a half stars for me, but would have been a high 4 if that had been included more in the story. I really liked the romances here as well. It was pretty cool too that the girls' hobbies didn't end up defining their future career paths 5y
rjsthumbelina Read this for the #BNYAbookclub, and also for #herbology for the #OWLSmagicalreadathon (title starts with an 'M') 5y
LiteraryinPA I really liked this one but your points make sense for sure. 5y
rjsthumbelina @LiteraryinLititz I enjoyed it, too, for the most part. I just thought that the beginning took too long to really start moving, and that the author really missed an opportunity to talk about racial issues once she had brought it up. It felt almost like those characters were marginalized from the story bc she didn't tackle that after briefly mentioning it 5y

This week has been an emotional rollercoaster. Actually, it's been a giant emotional rollercoaster for me since December. And not even bc that was when I found out I was pregnant! Between family drama and CoVID problems, it hasn't been easy. This week though, the emotions were centered on the baby - I found out that he's a boy, but my husband wasn't allowed to even video chat for the ultrasound, let alone be there. I'm trying to relax and get ...

rjsthumbelina ...caught up in someone else's drama today. Lol. And I really hope I can at least finish one dang book this week! 5y
Smrloomis Hoping everything goes smoothly and that it‘s a bit more restful for you from here on out! ❤️❤️❤️ 5y
rjsthumbelina @Smrloomis thanks! I am really grateful, bc it seems like my way higher than normal stress level hasn't had any negative impact on the baby's health, but I can't help but feel like my joy has been taken away from me somewhat throughout. And the stress has taken a toll on my ability to do things I love, like reading! But I'm getting there, I think 5y

1. Most Likely and A Lion Among Men, as far as reading with my eyes (as opposed to audio)
2. Can I have both? I always have a physical book, at least one ebook (A Lion Among Men), and at least one audio (currently listening to The Glass Hotel and Elantris)
3.so many! The biggest right now are probably Conjure Women and the new Mindy Mejia, as far as what I don't already have access to

This. Was. Fantastic. 💗💗💗💗💗

I highly recommend this debut novel from a writer on Parenthood (loved that show!). I almost don‘t want to give anything away, but it‘s basically about 4 best friends in their senior year of high school. We know from the start that one of them will become president, but we don‘t know which one. They all go through ups and downs and support each other. Everything folds together so gracefully in the end. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

rjsthumbelina Really hoping to be able to finish this one today! 5y

Calling all tub-readers! I‘ve never been a bath-taker but I think I want to start and see if it‘s relaxing for reading. I know this is silly, but do you have any advice? Are there certain things you recommend, like a kind of tray you like or hate? Does one have a cushion or something? How does it work? 😋

I think one of these two books is going to be my next book and a bathtub candidate (my current book is big, old, and a library book).

Librariana 1st up - I love your wavy water doodles 😊 2nd - I usually find that Non-fiction and Poetry works best for me in the tub as I can read morsels and then remember that I actually need to bathe as well 🤣 3rd - When I'm just looking to soak in bubbles endlessly (with candles and a glass of wine), Fiction is Queen 😁 That YA title looks awful promising for a good bathtub read... but then again, so does 5y
TEArificbooks I love using eucalyptus mint bath bombs and lighting a candle. I usually roll up a towel to lean my neck on and cushion or another towel under your bottom, other wise your skin can stick to the tub and it hurts to rip it off later (if nothing under your bottom just wiggle your butt every once in while). 5y
Cuilin Paperbacks only. No massive tomes. Candles, beverage of choice, bath salts are a must for me. Keep a dry wash cloth within reach to dry hands. Put a do not disturb sign on the door and you should be all set. 5y

Lcsmcat I read in the tub all the time! Bubbles or a good bath bomb are good, but not necessary. I don‘t use a tray, but do keep a dry wash cloth handy. And I can read longer with a paperback or small hardcover, but that‘s just my hands. I never read my Kindle in the bath, although in the decades I‘ve been tub reading I‘ve never dropped a book. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 5y
Bookish_AF Bathtub reading is my favorite! I am pretty basic though. I do not have a tray but I do want one! I also don‘t use a cushion or anything, I think I tried one in the past but didn‘t end up liking the one I had that much. My tub is pretty deep though (it is jetted) so maybe that helps. This may sound crazy, but I usually use my kindle. Risky, maybe! But very lightweight! Agree with no heavy tomes! And yes to a beverage, bubble bath, candles, etc. (edited) 5y
Erinreadsthebooks I tub read a ton, have since high school. There‘s no rules. A glass of wine helps, lighter books are easier, but that‘s about it. I‘ve lost a few makeshift bookmarks to the water, but no books. Enjoy! 5y
janeycanuck If you use an eReader, you can put it in a ziploc bag and still read it without worrying about dropping it. Music, candles, something for your neck, water & tea or wine are all delightful additions. Happy tubbing! 5y

My plans for the #EasterExtravaganza #readathon! I will continue The Glass Castle (divination for OWLS - random number generator pick from TBR) on audiobook, and I hope to start and finish Most Likely (herbology, OWLS - starts with M) and A Lion Among Men (history of magic - features witches/wizards). I would love to also be able to get through The World That We Knew (care of magical creatures - creature w/beak on cover)

rjsthumbelina If I need any others to sprinkle in, I would love to catch up on the #Cosmerealong (Elantris) and #Elderlingalong (Assassin's Apprentice)! 5y
Andrew65 Loved the Assassin‘s Apprentice. Good luck with the Readathon. 😊👍 5y

This is an empowering, nice story about 4 women, where one will become president. My favorite in this book is their unfailing friendship, no matter what no matter when. It is real in a way they never let each other down.
