Florida Roadkill
Florida Roadkill: A Novel | Tim Dorsey
8 posts | 18 read | 9 to read
Sunshine State trivia buff Serge A. Storms loves eliminating jerks and pests. His drug-addled partner Coleman loves cartoons. Hot stripper Sharon Rhodes loves cocaine, especially when purchased with rich dead men's money. On the other hand, there's Sean and David, who love fishing and are kind to animals -- and who are about to cross paths with a suitcase filled with $5 million in stolen insurance money. Serge wants the suitcase. Sharon wants the suitcase. Coleman wants more drugs . . . and the suitcase. In the meantime, there's murder by gun, Space Shuttle, Barbie doll, and Levi's 501s. In other words, welcome to Tim Dorsey's Florida -- where nobody gets out unscathed and untanned!

I had never heard of Tim Dorsey until I found this book while searching titles for a photo challenge prompt last month. When I saw this in a used bookstore the other day, I had to buy it!

Tex2Flo I‘m using this one as a book club choice for our Local Read selection for July. Not terribly literary, but fun if you can let go of the logical and drown yourself in the bizarrely bloody. Heard Dorsey called “Hiaissen on LSD”. 5y

Listened to Dorsey speak at the Miami Book Fair a few years ago and hubby said “I should read one of his books.” Of course, I just happened to have a few 😉 So far this one‘s his favorite. I may have to #reread his stuff myself.

1. There‘s lots crazy madcap thrillers that take place in the Sunshine State, but Tim Dorsey‘s Serge Storms series is the maddest cappiest of all. Especially check out the audiobooks that are narrated by Oliver Wyman.
2. March
3. Zero kiddos. 8 Niblings.
4. Sadly gave up eating from vending machines since my answer used to be All The Above.
5. Snoopy Dance!!!

Book: The Drive In series by Joe R Lansdale
Author: Tim Dorsey
Movie: Dogma TV Show: Doctor Who
Food: doughnuts (particularly Sour Cream but I don‘t eat them any more 🙁)

#manicmonday @JoScho

Tim Dorsey is the only author whose books inspired me to take a vacation to visit all the sites mentioned in his book. His Serge series is madcap fun and this is my well worn travel guide from my Florida roadtrip.

tonyahoswalt Ack! I can't believe I didn't think of Doctor Who! I did say Dogma though, love that movie! 6y

I learned some things about Florida and enjoyed a few chuckles, but the plot left me utterly confused. I like my books calmer and more realistic, I suppose. #florida #beach #murder

DGRachel Ive heard the series improves, but I did not enjoy this one either, and haven‘t tried any others. 7y
saguarosally @DGRachel I don‘t think I‘ll keep going. I did finish the book but it‘s not where I‘m interested in reading more. 7y
DGRachel I agree. 7y

I just didn't get into this book at all. Maybe I wasn't paying enough attention but there were so many things going on it was hard to keep it straight. At least it checked off Florida for me.

saguarosally Yeah, I‘m confused with the book so far, but perhaps it will make sense later. Still amused by a guy named storm surge, more or less. 7y
knittedgnome @saguarosally I know lots of people really like the series but it never clicked for me! 7y

I'm currently listening to this in the car. I started my adventures with Serge and Coleman in the middle of the series so I'm enjoying seeing how these characters started out.

Adutcher Am teased by colleagues for my reading choices of high-quality pulp fiction. I just smile and tease them back because they're reading (or want to be reading) the same stuff :-) 8y
