Legendary fashion designer Coco Chanel is revered for her sophisticated stylethe iconic little black dressand famed for her intoxicating perfume Chanel No. 5. Yet behind the public persona is a complicated woman of intrigue, shadowed by mysterious rumors. The Queen of Paris, the new novel from award-winning author Pamela Binnings Ewen, vividly imagines the hidden life of Chanel during the four years of Nazi occupation in Paris in the midst of WWIIas discovered in recently unearthed wartime files. Coco Chanel could be cheerful, lighthearted, and generous; she also could be ruthless, manipulative, even cruel. Against the winds of war, with the Wehrmacht marching down the Champs-lyses, Chanel finds herself residing alongside the Reichs High Command in the Hotel Ritz. Surrounded by the enemy, Chanel wages a private war of her own to wrestle full control of her perfume company from the hands of her Jewish business partner, Pierre Wertheimer. With anti-Semitism on the rise, he has escaped to the United States with the confidential formula for Chanel No. 5. Distrustful of his intentions to set up production on the outskirts of New York City, Chanel fights to seize ownership. The House of Chanel shall not fall. While Chanel struggles to keep her livelihood intact, Paris sinks under the iron fist of German rule. Chanela woman made of sparkling granitewill do anything to survive. She will even agree to collaborate with the Nazis in order to protect her darkest secrets. When she is covertly recruited by Germany to spy for the Reich, she becomes Agent F-7124, code name: Westminster. But why? And to what lengths will she go to keep her stormy past from haunting her future?

This book is all about Coco Channel's experience in Paris during WWII. It shows what a trecherous place it was and how she managed to navigate the trials and pitfalls. I felt it showed a different side of surviving the war. Very well done!

‘The Queen of Paris‘ follows Coco Chanel‘s life during the four years of Nazi occupation in Paris. Ewen brought Coco alive & had me asking several times, what I would have done, were I in Coco‘s shoes. I had the pleasure of asking Pamela a few questions about her book & writing process. The interview is up on the blog.

catebutler @kspenmoll Thank you!! I so appreciate you checking it out, and for your kind comment. I honestly had such a grand time asking these questions. I always love when interviews have some depth to them. So your comment has pleased me to no end. 🥰 4y
MsMelissa Great Q&A! I bought this one recently so I‘m glad that you enjoyed it. I‘ll be interested to see how it compares to C.W. Gortner‘s novel about Chanel, which I read a few years back and really enjoyed 4y
catebutler @Book_Fiend_Melissa Thanks Melissa! I have not read Gortner‘s novel yet, but have read a few of his titles and have several more on my TBR. He‘s excellent! Ewen‘s research was meticulous, which makes sense with her law degree. Love to hear your opinion when you pick it up! 4y

A novel about the dynamic Coco Chanel. This story takes place during the four years of German occupation of Paris. And it revolves heavily around her perfume No. 5 and how she battled keeping control of her fragrance. Rich with historic detail I feel this is a solid 4.5 ⭐️ read.

This was ok. It's kind of slow. It's also centered around Chanel's life during World War II, which isn't exactly the fun and glamorous part of her story.

I read an #ARC from #Netgalley. This has already been published. I'm way behind.

Almost forgot to tag @Buechersuechtling Thanks for including me!

1. Perseverance (Coco Chanel does whatever she can to succeed.)
2. No. But I've been filling out too many #goodreads giveaways so they keep turning up regardless. I do want the 4th Alex Hawke spy thriller but I'm behaving for now.

Thanks to #BlackstonePublishing and #netgalley for the opportunity to read and review #thequeenofparis

This book tells the story of Coco Chanel and her life during the Nazi occupation of Paris. The author uses flashbacks to fill in the details of her early life. Basically the book posits that Coco worked for the Nazis during the war. She lived in the Ritz hotel, where all the high ranking Nazis stayed. ⬇️

Crazeedi Her partner in her Chanel No. 5 perfume stole the recipe for her signature scent and we follow along as Coco fights to keep control of her creation. Everything she does is aimed at saving what rightly belonged to her. A well written book that I highly recommend. 5y

I have been a little torn over this book. While on one hand I loved learning all about Coco Chanel but I felt at times it was a bit lengthy in places. Coco is a wonderfully strong woman who despite very humble beginnings becomes quite a force in the fashion world. Using her intellect & status she was able to comfortably live in occupied France right in the nest of many powerful Nazis.

Crazeedi I just received this ARC, looking forward to it 5y
