I was a little unsure abt the idea of a prequel when I have travelled over 20 years in the Tom Torne series but this was a great page turner that explains a lot of the detective's back story. Set in 1996, as the country is gripped by the European championship, a little boy is snatched in a park under the eyes of the two mothers. As the plot unfolds, we learn of thornes dissolving marriage and how he met Phil Hendricks. Good read

15th Thorne novel finds him on the trail of someone who is killing cats which as anticipated ramps up to a possible serial killer. Nicolas Tanner and he then investigate this as well as a drug gang killing possible witnesses. Usual very readable thriller with characters who are well established and enjoyable.

Last weekend's reading was 14th in the excellent Tom Thorne series which never fails. Here a DS ,whose partner has recently been murdered is on compassionate leave and asks Tom to help as she seeks revenge. The search moves into the realm of honour killing and Tom's lack of sensitivity stirs the waters.

It was interesting going back in time with Thorne for this one, but I‘m not sure what it added to the series, other than some background details. The actual crime was interesting and I thought it was someone else until the very end!

I was sceptical at first because it was set back in 1996 before the rest of the series, but ended up loving it. Was great reading about when Tom first met Phil, oh the banter 😍 Reliving the highs and lows of Euro 96 was strange though. Another great book in the series

Another fantastic Tom Thorne book!
It's great to have Thorne, Hendricks, Kitson and Tanner back in this action packed thriller that had me guessing until the end.
Loved the epilogue amd excited for the next instalment!
I still don't like Helen, Thorne's girlfriend though but that's just a side issue haha

I really love this series and this was a good addition. Only problem I have is that there is so many and I‘ve been reading the series for about 8 years now (can‘t quite remember) and I forget a lot that happened in the earlier books. I‘m going to have to start all over again soon!

Great new one in the series 👍🏻 Didn‘t guess the killer and lots of good subplots.

I rarely read a book in a series out of order, but the review in the New York Times was so interesting that I put a library hold on it. This is Billingham's fourteenth book featuring detective Tom Thorne. The subject of this case is honor killings, which increases the tension between the police and the community. I felt I knew the characters, and I enjoyed the British setting. The plot had some problems, but I kept turning the pages.

This was an amazing addition to the Tom Thorne series. I was so wrapped up in it, i finished it in less than a day. Also, a Strictly Ballroom reference! Now I'm thinking I need to go back and reread the entire series.

Another good one in the series. Didn't guess the last twist which is good 😀 developed Thorne's personal life a bit further too. Really like the Tom Thorne character!

Should hopefully get this finished on my 4 hour train journey to Edinburgh. Will feel weird not to be at home as election results come in, but meeting been in diary for ages. Home tomorrow!
