Really enjoyed the storytelling on this one. Based around the true events of Nazi occupied Venice, it perfectly encapsulates the city and the stories of Venetians fighting for freedom. #pick #venice #thesecretmessenger

Spent the morning of New Years Day finishing up the tagged book. The book was well written but it was only so-so for me. I did get to learn a bit about the Italian Resistance during WWII which was interesting. It didn't feel like it needed the character in present time trying to figure out her families history - the book would have read well without it.

Finally some time to read as my husband has an evening shift today. Going to sit down with The Secret Messenger and some delicious London Breakfast tea. It isn't a bad book but man am I struggling to get through this book. Can't wait to be spending this morning with a book and tea on this snowy day!

It is time to start another historical fiction book - this time we are in Venice during WWII. I'm interested to see where this book goes as I haven't found many books that explore Italy during WWII. We have some perfect reading weather where we live with some cool autumn air.

Just finished this one. I had this from NetGalley and have been somewhat neglectful of my NetGalley account this year. Essential worker, what can I say. Anyway, I this on hold from the library and it finally became available. It was pretty good. A typical WWII story, only set in Italy. #WinterGames2020 #readnosedreindeer #littenlisten #festiveflicks #bookspinbingo #DashingDecember #CrushTheRush #ReadYourWay #WinterSolstice (×2)

This is a dual timeline story - in 1940s Venice Stella works with the Italian Resistance to undermine the Nazis and their fascist allies, and in the 2010s Louisa searches for info about her grandmother‘s past after finding an old photograph. The story focuses much more on Stella, which was fine with me since I was much more interested in her story. I enjoyed learning about the war in Venice and the efforts of the Resistance. Recommended!
I'm in the process of bringing my blog back from the dead. This is my latest post. It's basically a book review with some fangirling about Venice thrown in.

This is about the Resistance in Venice during WWII. I enjoyed it. There aren't a lot of books about Italy during that time. I've been to Venice and I think that helps me to imagine what it was like.
A note on the photo. The book fell of my deck when I was taking a picture. This is what I ended up with instead.

This was a great book! I loved the entirety of Stella‘s story from the past! It was perfect and could have honestly been a complete book by itself. I loved that the story took place in Venice which is not a popular location for WWII historical fictions so it was wonderful to read about the war from another place. Overall I loved how everything came together at the ending and there was definitely a surprise!
