Lovely book of watercolour paintings of Venice that come to life even more after experiencing the city in real life.

Wouldn't call it a graphic novel as it's not really a story!

Bye bye, Venice 🥲 I will be back to see you again someday!

Have just arrived in Brescia for phase 2 of Italian adventure.

Am way too excited that our flat has a TV so that we can have a Eurovision party.

My friends are unanimously less pleased.

Hooked_on_books I went to Venice years ago and had a great time. My friend and I had a map out trying to find something and a guy stopped and asked us for directions. We couldn‘t help him (uh, we needed a map). He says, “but you have a map—you know where you are!” It still makes me laugh. 1w
RaeLovesToRead @Hooked_on_books Hahaha... the guy we rented the flat from told us to get lost in Venice... we walked round in many circles trying 🤣🤣 7d

You may recognise the top middle picture from my pic the other day! These pictures are near where we are staying.

Venice by Jiro Tanaguchi is a book of watercolours of Venice. It is billed as a "graphic novel" but I wouldn't really call it a story. It's more of an art book with narrative aspects.

Flipping through trying to work out which bits we'd seen was fun (e.g. my friend: "that's the bridge where you started complaining your feet hurt").

#serieslove2024 #16 in Commissario Guido Brunetti mysteries.Another achievement of complexity!
Brunetti is called out of bed in the middle of the night to question a senior pediatrician who was attacked during a home invasion. His 18 month old son was snatched away.
What Brunetti uncovers is a story of infertility, desperation,& illegal dealings.Meanwhile his colleague, Vianello,is following a line of inquiry regarding pharmacies‘ irregularities.

TheSpineView Fantastic!🤩📖 4w

This book redeemed my last experience in the series.
I walked with Brunetti along Venice‘s cobbled streets & narrow alleys. We glided over canals & raced in water busses. We drank coffee & wine in its bars.A curmudgeon owner of a Murano glass making factory threatens the life of his environmentalist son-in-law because of his political stance. Then a night watchman in his factory dies under mysterious circumstances.Brunetti looks into both issues.

BarbaraBB Wow, Venice 🥰 1mo

Up late last night watching UConn v Iowa game - nail biter- UConn lost, 69-71. They did a great job keeping Caitlin Clark from 3pt scoring, with only 8 players to depend on.
Consequently, late morning coffee & reading.Em is curled up on my lap, totally content.😻This is perfect to read right now-spring weather & flowers interspersed throughout. Our weather has been crazy-snow Thursday, cloudy, cold, windy the last few days.#serieslove2024 Hope for☀️

TheSpineView Enjoy your reading day! 1mo
Andrew65 An excellent series. Our weather has been storms and very high winds, interspersed with a lot of rain and the odd bit of sun. On about the fourth day of very high winds out of 5. 1mo

Mehso-so

I have decided to read this series in order-this was published in 2005. The politics of immigration becomes intertwined with forces Commissario Brunelli could never have imagined. When warned off by his boss from his case involving a murdered illegal immigrant, he of course continues to investigate. I cannot pinpoint the reason, but this book in the series just didn‘t do it for me, hence the So-So rating. #serieslove2024

TheSpineView Great job for finishing even when it was lackluster. 2mo

Both my husband & son had the flu this past week, with a few signs of a slow recovery now.Consequently, my life was full between being Florence Nightingale & my usual busy work life.On p. 36 of Blood from a Stone, & 48/64 of The Order.
This illness, going on week two tomorrow has made it glaringly clear how much both my men do,not just emotional support, but practical things such as grocery shopping-countless errands. #gratitude #bookreport
