I read it like over a year or so, but is good to have a better understand of some of the things that actually happened during our 2016 presidential election 🗳

It‘s just so damn depressing. To see it sitting there sad,so dry , so much material blacked out.I might find it online and dip into it again, but enough for now.
Life is too short.

Riveted_Reader_Melissa Yep... I couldn‘t do it either. Sadly 5y
vivastory I feel like the Ukraine shenanigans are the cliff notes version of what happened with Russia 5y
Leftcoastzen @vivastory Yep , that‘s what I‘m thinking. 5y

Billypar This is the only audiobook to date that I've listened to at 2x speed. The redactions were so annoying, especially when it was a part that seemed really interesting or important. 5y
Leftcoastzen @Billypar not surprised, must be weird on audio.🤔 5y
Billypar A bit weird, yes, with the chipmunk narrator having to repeat 'Redaction, harm to ongoing matter.' at random points. 😁 5y

Warning: this introduction by Dershowitz is BIASED! There are many redacted lines, but there is a lot of obvious guilt on every page. Every American should read this report. #dumptrump

From what I have been told this is an essential read but is also incredibly dry.

Donald J(ackass) Trump needs to be thrown in the oubliette at Warwick Castle.

I hope if I am ever suspected of a crime people work this hard to give me an out. Our cyber security seems crap and no one seems to take that seriously. This report is repetitive and looks at ever aspect as if under a microscope. I look forward to hearing Special Council talk.

I switched versions and can‘t find one that actually looks like the one I‘m reading. 🤷‍♀️

To be honest, that first sentence of the second paragraph is all I needed to know. I mean, I already knew it but seeing it in an official document, in black and white - that‘s what I wanted.

jpmcwisemorgan @BookishMarginalia It‘s happening again too, I think. And the media just wants to keep going on about poor 45 voters and how Dems need to win them over. There‘s not a lot of reporting on some of the problems with voting machines. I‘ll see an article and then it‘s dropped from the news. There‘s an occasional article about gerrymandering or voter suppression and then it‘s dropped. We have serious problems, Russia is only one of them. 5y
BookishMarginalia Agreed. It‘s disheartening but we can‘t ever give up. 5y

Summer reading

Riveted_Reader_Melissa I have the same thing! 5y
Nebklvr @Riveted_Reader_Melissa how‘s it going for you? 5y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Nebklvr Slow.... I can only read a section or two before I‘m completely disgusted and have to put it down for awhile. But I‘m determined to finish before he testifies! 5y

Riveted_Reader_Melissa How are you making out? 5y
Nebklvr @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Same. There is a lot of repetition 5y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Nebklvr There is, especially in the beginning. But I‘m in the Russian interference now, and disgusted by how deep it was and how little they‘ve done to make anything more secure since then. 5y
Nebklvr @Riveted_Reader_Melissa We seem to be completely slack in cybersecurity. Up to pg 350 now. This is slow 5y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Nebklvr Yes it is! I had to put mine down for awhile, slow and disheartening. But page 350! Good for you! That‘s excellent... you‘re almost there! 5y
Nebklvr @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Not much new except more indepth look at how each item could or could not be construed as obstruction. 5y

There‘s the free online version, but I like to hold my books. There‘s the “People‘s Version” with no context. There‘s the version with a Conservative forward. Then there is this version—the Jeff Bezos version. Perhaps slanted in the supplemental info, BUT it has a cast of characters and a timeline. I‘m the kind of reader who needs that help.

IRA: internet research agency LLC a Russian organization funded by Yevgeniy Prigozhin

We have a serious problem when our own political figures don't even know fact from fiction! This is so terrifying...

I enjoyed this a lot more than I was expecting! I wasn‘t expecting to enjoy it at all but I‘m glad I read it. Surprisingly readable (even with all the redactions) and I feel I took in a lot of information that I‘ve been able to understand and explain to people rather than it just washing over me. The US legal system seems so different to the UK‘s so this was good background for understanding how hard it actually is to get rid of a president.

WorldsOkayestStepMom My husband brought it home from the store last month, and I had been holding off on reading it until I got someone else's perspective on it! Thanks for the review!! 6y
Susannah Great review! It *is* hard to get rid of a US president, but I think that‘s actually a good thing ... most of the time. Right now, however, I wish we Americans could give Trump a dose of his own medicine and tell him “you‘re fired.” It seems to get worse every day, doesn‘t it? Hang in there. 6y
Emilymdxn @Susannah it was surprising to read as a British person as we get rid of prime ministers half way through their term all the time - it‘s happened twice in my lifetime and will probably happen again v soon so it was originally hard for me to get my head round it! I guess I forget how different the systems are sometimes! 6y

Susannah I was telling a friend of mine how appealing it sounded to be able to call elections when they need to occur even if it‘s not in the standard time table. I can see where it would underscore instability, but sometimes changes must be made! The US does have recall elections for lower offices, but presidents can only be removed via impeachment and conviction or via the guidelines laid out in the 25th Amendment to the US Constitution. ☹️ 6y
Emilymdxn @Susannah i find US systems for this stuff so fascinating. In the uk they resign fairly frequently, so it‘s not a huge deal when they do, and a no confidence vote in their own party can result in them being replaced by another MP from that party without an election, or there can be a snap election like we had last time. Theresa May has been refusing to leave for months now tho so maybe our system doesn‘t make it as easy as it should 😐 6y

Riveted_Reader_Melissa Right! It‘s amazing, and infuriating...how anyone can read that and think, no problems here is beyond me. And then he called Russia yesterday and talked about the report and the Russian hoax with Putin! 🤯 6y
Yeah_I_Read @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I am so shocked by the extent of the Russian “interference.” I can‘t believe more people aren‘t outraged by this, no matter their political affiliation. 6y
See All 7 Comments
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Yeah_I_Read I know, you‘d think no matter their party it‘d be Russia Commissions, Election Protection Policies across the board. But nope, one whole group is just acting like it‘s still didn‘t happen or wasn‘t important because it benefited them...and how shortsighted is that, because it won‘t always benefit you or the best of your party. The hypocrisy is surreal. 6y
Yeah_I_Read @Riveted_Reader_Melissa yes! Exactly. All I can think of is how powerful the Clinton campaign must have been, as in I‘m sure they had top of the line people, equipment, security etc. so if it can happen to them, and other prestigious democratic institutions, how can people think it couldn‘t happen to anyone or any campaign. Also the fact that the Russians played on already divisive issues in our culture and promoted hate and intolerance should be (edited) 6y
Yeah_I_Read Abhorrent and loudly condemned by everyone in government 6y

Although I expect whatever is released (possibly tomorrow) to be heavily redacted, I have to give B&N credit for sending out emails to offer it free pre-converted to NOOK format and you can pre-order it now.

#MuellerReport

AlaMich Good for them!! 6y
jpmcwisemorgan Part of me wants to read it even if it‘s heavily redacted but the other part of me wants to wait until the people of Twitter get their hands on it. 6y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @jpmcwisemorgan I‘ll probably do both, but the Tweets will be much faster at reading and posting about it, I‘m sure they‘ll have it on Twitter before I even get a chance to read it. 6y

AmyG Twitter always have everything announce a beat or two before the news. 6y
Megabooks I ordered it 🙋🏻‍♀️! It‘s probably 2 pages after being redacted. 6y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Megabooks Right! 😂 I hate to laugh about something so serious, but I wouldn‘t be surprised if it‘s shorter than the summary. I doubt we‘ll really see anything until it‘s old enough to be requested by the Freedom of Information Act year‘s from now. I‘m disgusted Congress hasn‘t gotten the whole unredacted thing already, they have committees with top security clearances for National Security issues, they should have had the whole thing immediately 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage I‘m thinking I‘ll wait until some discussion has come to light. Plus, we leave Sunday night for vacay. I really want to leave US politics behind for a bit if I can ... 6y
Megabooks @BarbaraTheBibliophage I wouldn‘t take this on vacation!! Melissa - Congress members should‘ve gotten unredacted day 1! 6y

BarbaraTheBibliophage @kspenmoll @Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Megabooks You‘ve all solidified my feelings—thanks! 6y
Megabooks Melissa, @BarbaraTheBibliophage The Washington Post just said on Twitter that it will be “lightly redacted”. I am so curious about what the Trump administration‘s definition of lightly is? 😳 6y
