This MF, poetry picture book tells the story of a bear who sat on a mouse‘s chair and the mouse tries many different ways to get the bear off of his chair. This story would be perfect as a storytell because the book is short and it rhymes so it is easy to remember and intriguing to act out. https://www.raisingreaders.org/book/Theres-a-Bear-on-My-Chair/1415/ This website contains more information and activities relating to the book. #ucflae3414f19

leximcmillin A UDL principle that aligns with this book is 1.1 Offer ways of customizing the display of information. You can use different ways to tell this story including acting it out. An EL strategy that goes with this book is 8. Use direct instruction: Modeling, explaining, scaffolding, name the strategy and show how to use it. 5y
Jewelwinkler I would love to see children act out a poetry book definitely will be a great activity! 5y
JRone This book does sound like a great book to do storytelling on especially if it rhymes. I think your UDL and ESOL strategies align perfectly because you definitely can model or act out this book. 5y
DrSpalding Your peers said it all! Very well done Lexi. Whenever you get a new book consider posting a picture and sharing it with our #. 5y

There's A Bear On My Chair by Ross Collins is an absolutely adorable story about a frustrated mouse, a lazy bear, and just one chair.

I just had to pick this one up for my coworkers baby shower when I saw the polar bear on the cover. And, in my usual fashion, I just had to read it to make sure it was worth giving as a gift! Spoiler: it is!

This book is flipping adorable. I read it quietly to myself, and then out loud, "storytime" style to a coworker. IThe artwork is really cute, as is the story. I recommend.

faelinwolf I love reading picture books out loud to adult people! 😀😀😀 It's fun to see how much they enjoy it. 7y
Chelleo This was a hit with my boys. 😍 7y

This modern fantasy (F) is one of this year‘s Sunshine state young reader award (SSYRA) books for K-2 grade. It‘s such a cute book that students in these grades will love! This book would be used as an (IR) especially since it‘s an SSYRA book.

My husband has given in and is letting me use our back bedroom as a library. I‘m now on the hunt for a nice armchair. I know a lot of you have this chair from Ikea, so is it worth it? I love the look of it, but I want to know if it‘s comfortable for reading.

Maike If you stalk my feed a little you‘ll see I recently got it in yellow. It‘s really good for reading, but you should definitely get the footstool as well. 7y
erinreads @Maike Stalking complete! 👌🏻 And I would definitely get the foot stool. Also, I didn‘t even consider the yellow, but it really is gorgeous! 😍 7y
jhod I have the green, agree the yellow is lovely though! We're unfortunately already a bit too multi-coloured in that room! 7y

L_auren Make sure to also check out the Ektorp Armchair at IKEA. I have it as my reading chair and love it. 7y
erinreads @L_auren Do you have the ottoman to go with this one? 7y
Bookworm-Bobbie I have this in my library in light grey. I love it! I can sit with my legs over one arm and rest my head/ back on the wing. I never could sit in a chair properly 😂 7y
AlaMich What‘s the name of that chair? It‘s very nice-looking! 7y
erinreads @AlaMich This is the Strandmon wing chair. 7y
AlaMich @erinreads Thank you! I am off now to check it out on the website...😊 (edited) 7y
Shemac77 I don‘t have this one but I have their poang chairs and they‘re amazing. 7y
Cathythoughts Very nice. & feet up is essential ✨ 7y
L_auren @erinreads I don‘t, but only because it‘s near the foot of my bed where I have another bench for my feet. i would have otherwise! I liked mine more than the one photographed because the arms are much higher and sturdier and I like to change positions a lot and lean on the arms 🙂 7y
megt Yes! I love this chair. Originally picked it up to be the accent chair in the library/den my sister and I set up in a spare bedroom. We both found it so comfortable that we ditched the second hand couch we had and just got a couple more of these chairs. 😊 7y
drokka I got my wingback at a consignment store. Come to think of it, all my non-dinning seating is secondhand. Hmmm 7y
auntie_jenn looks like it has a nice semi-reclining angle 👍🏻 7y

Alytrue I don't know about the lovely chair, but my preschool class loves the tagged book!😂 7y
vkois88 I'm supremely jealous of a full library in your house. Idk anything about the chair but it's beautiful and LOOKS comfy. I love the color. It's in the color scheme I have with my daughter's stuff 😍 if only I had room! 7y

This P picture book, written by Ross Collins, is an adorable story about a polar bear and a mouse. This is an excellent text for a RT activity due to the dynamic relationship between the two main characters. The story is told through the perspective of a rhyming mouse. The entire book he is trying to figure out how to get the bear out of his chair, until he becomes too frustrated and leaves.

kkidwell The polar bear decided to go home, only to find the mouse is now in his bed. This text can easily facilitate lessons on problem solving tactics. #UCFLAE3414F17 7y

This link offers activities that help explain the relationship between the mouse and the polar bear. It also includes instructions on how to create a mouse and polar bear that can be utilized in the RT.

This is one of my favorite picks for storytime. I can't get enough of it, and luckily the kids don't seem to get tired of it.

Ever been so mad that you've stripped down to your underwear in an attempt to give someone (in this case a chair stealing bear) a good scare? 😂 No?

I ❤️ this book!
