This was a perfect read for this time of year. The descriptions of the ice were wintery perfection. ❄

Great characters, great world building, and the ending has a big cliffhanger that has me wishing I had the second book already.

I‘m going to continue reading these because I LOVED The Books of the Ancestor. So, any chance to return to this world is worth it for me. However, I have some complaints. There are FAR too many battles & not nearly enough levity. And Lawrence does something that‘s a big pet peeve of mine; this first installment ends on such a major cliffhanger that it doesn‘t feel remotely whole unto itself. It‘s incomplete. The story could never stand on its own.

I am posting one book per day from my to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it, I just do. Some will be old, some will be new - don‘t judge me I have a lot of books.
Join the fun if you want. This is day 122.

The colossal head known as the “Younger Memnon,“ from the mortuary temple of Ramses in Thebes. Now in London. Created around 1270 BC and installed in the British Museum Egyptian Room #4 in 1834. The arrival of the Younger Memnon in London in 1821 likely inspired the twin sonnets entitled “Ozymandias“ by P.B.Shelley and Horace Smith. #lmpbc #round8 #groupC @laughterhp @unidragonfrag

MariaW You should see the other statue in Egypt, which is still complete. 😊 4y
BookishBelle I loved Ozymandias by Shelley when I was in school. I will still sometimes say, ‘Look upon my works, ye mighty, and despair!‘ when I have finished doing something. 😁 4y
mrsmarch @MariaW I‘d love to go to Egypt! I dream of taking a Nile River cruise and doing nothing but reading Amelia Peabody novels. 4y

mrsmarch @BookishBelle I tend more toward “Abandon all hope ye who enter here” but to each their own 🤣🤣 4y
Catherine_Willoughby @BookishBelle my favourite poem. Brought a poetry book just to have a hard copy of this poem 4y
BookishBelle @mrsmarch 😂😂😂 4y
BookishBelle @Catherine_Willoughby Nice! I think I have it in an anthology somewhere. 🤔 4y
night_shift Huh! It sounded familiar, but I didn't know this. Need to look it up now.. 4y
mrsmarch @UnidragonFrag I printed it out and put it in the book 🤪 It will be there when you reread our notes! 4y

For some reason I just didn‘t like this book. The world was interesting and that really what kept me reading. If it wasn‘t an #LMPBC book, I probably would have bailed.

I don‘t want to say too much since 1 more person still needs to read this, but it was a lot more YA than I thought it was going to be. 😬😬

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Love the photo 💜 4y
Laughterhp @mrsmarch 🤞🏻🤞🏻 I‘ll have this in the mail to you tomorrow 4y
mrsmarch I‘m about halfway thru this. I will finish it in due time and get it back to @UnidragonFrag ! @Laughterhp have either of you ever read ? 4y
Laughterhp @mrsmarch I tried to read it a long time ago but didn‘t finish or didn‘t get very far. I forget why though. Maybe I just wasn‘t into at the time. 4y
night_shift Yeah, it was a lot more YA than I thought also :/ I'm wanting to read Sabriel! It's on my kindle! 4y

Hey Group C! Just wanted to check in with everyone to see how they‘re doing on current reads. I honestly don‘t even know where we are actually supposed to be in this rotation.

I‘m about 130 pages into the tagged book. It‘s slow going. It‘s a lot more YA than I thought it. I‘m hoping to be done in May, but it‘ll probably be the first week of June.

#LMPBC

night_shift I don't know what to say, but life has been kicking me in the ass and reading for pleasure just hasn't been super priority. I bailed on the Jocasta book as I just couldn't get into it and The Five I started and wasn't feeling reading about murders, ya know? I'm really sorry #groupc! I do have a box now, I'll let y'all know when I'm sending the books back along. 4y
mrsmarch I‘m just waiting for this last book. When it comes, @Laughterhp, it comes. I‘m sorry we‘ve had such a blah round, but I think that‘s okay. What‘s important right now is that we‘re all striving to stay engaged with each other, in a horrible, separating time. 4y

Another brilliant fantasy offering from Mark Lawrence. Great new story and characters and a great cliff hanger ending 😁 Can‘t wait for the next one.

I love this book. Yaz is a great character, full of doubts but also determination to do what‘s right. I loved being back on Abeth, with mentions of the places from Red Sister, but also very different as this is life on the ice and below it. For me it had a sense of wonder and atmosphere that reminded me of when I read The Tombs of Atuan by Ursula Le Guin many years ago…..but this is very different, with fantastic world building.Utterly brilliant.

TrishB Waiting for mine to arrive. Love this author. 5y
Lel2403 @TrishB me too. It‘s in the same universe as red sister, but different characters etc. I love it. 5y
Cinfhen I was just thinking how much @TrishB loves this author!!! So does @DeborahSmall ♥️♥️♥️ 5y

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I agree with #5!! I knew you had the military look! Thank you for your service 🇺🇸 5y
JaneyWaneyB I'd recommend Ian Irvine as a fantasy author. The View from The Mirror series is great, I was hooked 😀 5y

This was really good! The next one doesn't come out for a while, so I'll probably pick up the other stories set in this same world to soothe my annoyance arty having to wait a year for the next one 😩
#LMPBC #GroupC - I'll be sending this out Monday! To @Geenie I believe?

#LMPBC #GroupC so, I chose 2 female authors and 3 of these are fantasy. The Ruby in the Smoke has fantasy as a tag though I think it's more historical fiction, but I don't know. I'll tag them in the comments w/the pg counts.

📚📚Looks like I'm going to choose the tagged book!📚📚

night_shift 369pgs - this is the arc I'm already planning on reading this month or next anyway lol 5y
night_shift Ah, hm.. The Ruby one sounds like it's leaning more thriller/mystery. I'll have to see if I can find another one when I get back home.. 5y
mrsmarch Hilarity! I also had a LeGuin on my short list! I don‘t mind a mystery...it‘s hard to explain...I‘m so burnt out on those types of books you buy in an airport bookshop...Grisham and Patterson and Clancy... (edited) 5y
Laughterhp I‘d be okay with The Girl and the Stars or A Wizard of Earthsea. I read Wrath and Dawn last year(great book). I think the medical NF might be too tough for me. 5y
mrsmarch @Laughterhp @UnidragonFrag I searched Litsy for the person of the name who joined as #4...I saw an account but the latest post was a while ago and I don‘t want to assume it‘s the same person or the correct account. 5y
night_shift @mrsmarch yeah, I did the same thing. I think we probably found the same one. What happens if we never hear from them? Also, I completely understand the burn out on those sort of books. The last one I read was just 🙄 5y
night_shift @Laughterhp I got Wrath and Dawn as a gift but still haven't gotten to it, glad to hear it's good! Those were the two I was leaning more toward, honestly. 5y
Laughterhp @mrsmarch @UnidragonFrag I did the same exact search you both did... 🤷🏻‍♀️ Suvata will send out an email with everyone‘s email and contact information once it‘s full. I think that‘s the only way right now we are going to find the correct handle/person. 5y
Geenie I have read A Wizard of Earthsea. I actually loved it. I‘m open to reading any of them. @Laughterhp @mrsmarch @UnidragonFrag 5y
mrsmarch The Girl and the Stars, or Wrath and Dawn. I‘ll post mine in a second. 5y
night_shift @Yoshi-and-a-book 😅 I saw you're reply on my post and just did not connect that lol Glad to hear Earthsea is good! Welp, it's looking like consensus is lacking toward The Girl and the Stars so I'm 100% ok going with that 😂 5y
Geenie @UnidragonFrag me too! I just got this book today if anyone is interested. I have a couple others I can put up when I return from the library @mrsmarch @Laughterhp 5y
Geenie So is everyone cool with choosing from the two I posted? Does anyone have a preference? Would anyone like more options? @Laughterhp @mrsmarch @UnidragonFrag 5y
night_shift @Yoshi-and-a-book I think of those two, Darkness Before Dawn sounds more interesting to me, but if you have others you want to read as more options, definitely! 5y
Laughterhp @Yoshi-and-a-book The Girl from Above sounds good to me. Darkness Before Dawn sounds like it‘ll be too YA. But I‘d be interested in seeing other options you have too. 5y
night_shift @Laughterhp @Yoshi-and-a-book ah, yeah that's true about Darkness so that may not fit in for us? The Girl From Above sounds familiar too me, but I'd be open to reading that if everyone's ok with that. @mrsmarch 5y
mrsmarch @Laughterhp @Yoshi-and-a-book @UnidragonFrag Is Girl From Above going to be too bloody? The 18+ warning makes me a little nervous. I‘m not a prude but I am prone to nightmares. 5y
Geenie @UnidragonFrag don‘t worry! I‘ll post a few more today @mrsmarch @Laughterhp 5y
Geenie @Laughterhp @mrsmarch @UnidragonFrag has everyone picked colors? I would love pink 💖! 5y
mrsmarch @Yoshi-and-a-book @Laughterhp @UnidragonFrag I have green pens, if that‘s ok with everyone. 5y
Laughterhp @Yoshi-and-a-book @mrsmarch @UnidragonFrag I‘ll probably do blue or red 5y
night_shift So pink for @geenie green for @mrsmarch and either blue or red for @Laughterhp .. I already stated with purple, so that works! 5y
