Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: A Play
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: A Play: A Play | Roald Dahl
15 posts | 35 read | 6 to read
Roald Dahl's much-loved story about how Charlie Bucket wins a ticket to visit Willy Wonka's amazing chocolate factory is turned into a play for children to act. With tips about scenery, props and lighting, the play is easy to stage and there are lots of parts for everyone.Roald Dahl, the best-loved of children's writers, died in 1990 but his books continue to be bestsellers.Richard George was an elementary school teacher in New York when he wrote this stage adaptation of Roald Dahl's bestselling story - and Roald Dahl himself recommended that it should be published.

Veruca Salt is the first character to come to mind for #IWantItAll

She wants the whole world and is very entitled! It doesn‘t work out for her though. 🍫🍫🍫

Willy Wonka is the ultimate #misfit. He‘s an Eccentric chocolate making genius with a factory that has criminally poor occupational health and safety standards. I am guessing the Oompa Loompas don‘t have a good union rep. #marchintooz

KerriNTurner Love the candy in this pic, perfect for the book! 😊🍬🍭 7y
Cinfhen I love your choice and this photo 😊🙌🏻🎉🍭 7y
Wilkie @KerriNTurner @Cinfhen Thanks! My daughters were very confused when I was pouring sweets out on the bookshelf at 8:00 in the morning! 7y

Any Roald Dahl lovers? My 6 yr old and I just finished Charlie and the chocolate factory after reading James and the giant peach. Any ideas on what we should start next? I didn't read Dahl growing up so I'm kinda clueless.

Melkyl I like Matilda 😊 8y
Notafraidofwords Matilda 💛❤️ 8y
NikkiA Matilda or The Twits 😊 8y

CherylDeFranceschi Matilda and The BFG! 8y
Ange44 I bought this set, too, and I don't even have kids. I love these books. 8y
jpmcwisemorgan I loved The Witches but it can be a bit disturbing. It's one of my all-time favorite books but I don't usually recommend it to kids unless the parents read it first because the witches are not friendly at all and the end is a little bittersweet. 8y
queerbookreader DEFINITELY Matilda, The Twits is hilarious, and The Witches is the *perfect* book to jumpstart a kid's imagination 8y
ErikasMindfulShelf My 6 year old daughter really liked The BFG and Matilda. 8y
Graciouswarriorprincess BFG and Matilda!! 8y
Graciouswarriorprincess Also the Fantastic Mr. Fox is wonderful! 8y

ramyasbookshelf @BookishTrish have never heard of him but going to look him up right away! 8y
ramyasbookshelf Thanks for your input guys! We'll start with Matilda since that seems to be the most popular pick here and then go down the list of suggestions :) looking forward to many nights of fun! 8y
brendanmleonard @ramyasbookshelf it's the sequel, it's about what happens after the chocolate factory 8y
Biljana I LLOVE Dahl for grown ups and my kids and I LOVE his kids books. The BFG is great, so is Minpins (my favourite), Giraffe and Pelly and Me, Matilda, Fantastic Mr. Fox - any of them will do great, actually 😀 8y

I am so very sad to hear of Gene Wilder's passing today. "Come with me and you'll be in a world of pure imagination..."
This could have also been a post about Frankenstein: "It's Franc-in-steen!"
