The 19th Christmas
The 19th Christmas | James Patterson, Maxine Paetro
20 posts | 17 read | 4 to read
If the Women's Murder Club can't be together this Christmas, a killer is to blame. As the holidays approach, Detective Lindsay Boxer and her friends in the Women's Murder Club have much to celebrate. Crime is down. The medical examiner's office is quiet. Even the courts are showing some Christmas spirit. And the news cycle is so slow that journalist Cindy Thomas is on assignment to tell a story about the true meaning of the season for San Francisco. Then a fearsome criminal known only as "Loman" seizes control of the headlines. He is planning a deadly surprise for Christmas morning. And he has commissioned dozens of criminal colleagues to take actions that will mask his plans. All that Lindsay and the SFPD can figure out is that Loman's greed -- for riches, for bloodshed, for attention -- is limitless. Solving crimes never happens on schedule, but as this criminal mastermind unleashes credible threats by the hour, the month of December is upended for the Women's Murder Club. Avoiding tragedy is the only holiday miracle they seek.

I wish I had read this around the holidays, I think I would have enjoyed it more. It‘s sweltering hot here right now :(

Well it was an interesting Women‘s murder club addition. I enjoyed the mysterious “Loman” character and the vague event coming on Christmas … airport at Christmas time? You got me there!!

This was an impulse holiday read as I ran out of other books to listen to. It‘s grittier than a cozy mystery, but still pretty formulaic, especially with how mastermind criminals make ridiculous mistakes at the end and everything basically falls into the laps of the investigators. Overall, it was nice for something different!

Ok, last catch-up post. I like Patterson‘s books because they read quickly. This Women‘s Murder Club novel has the facing off against injustice and a criminal mastermind bent on causing chaos and destruction during the holidays. +386 #MerryReaders #WinterGames2020 #FestiveFlicksBingo #Averymerrybingo #cosyathon #reindeerreadathon #cyoholidayadventure #travelathon #littenlisten #crushtherush #readyourway #bookmasbingo #bookishbingo

First book finished in February, and takes in #California for #SeparatedbyAPondTour.
Another good episode in The Women‘s Murder Club Series, a good enough book to be a pick but still don‘t feel recent ones are as good as the early ones in the series. The Women‘s Murder Club theme really no longer seems to be there, about getting together and solving the crimes, now really just about the 4 of them. Surprise at end of book, could be interesting.

TrishB I said no more after 17, but 18 was kindle offer yesterday 😁 they‘ve definitely lost the women‘s gang feel that I really liked. 5y
Andrew65 @TrishB They just about do enough to keep me involved but close to falling off the radar. Not sure how or why they lost that theme, that was what made them stand out! 5y
TheAromaofBooks I haven't even heard of these! How many are in the series now? 5y
Andrew65 19 so far, each book starts with the number e.g. first one is 5y

#holidayread 20 points After book 18 I said I was done with this series and I only picked this up because it was set at Christmas. This series has lost everything that drew me to the series in the first place. The Women‘s Murder club does not even function together and I don‘t know why Claire is like a footnote in these books now when she is one of my favorites.

Scochrane26 I stopped after 12, I think. Just lost interest & had other books/series to read. I like Claire, too. (edited) 5y
BarkingMadRead I agree, I keep reading them because I hate giving up lol but I miss the old feel of the books 5y

I don't think I'm ever reading anymore books in this series again. They're no longer exciting.

21% in. I've come to the conclusion that this is the last book in this series I'll read. They're just not that great anymore.

Sometimes after 19 books in a series I tend to get bored with the story and characters, but the Women‘s Murder Club series is different. I love all of the characters and I really enjoy the stories of each of them. I am always ready for a new addition to the series and I can‘t wait for book 20!

“Avoiding tragedy is the only holiday miracle they seek.”

I haven‘t read any other Women‘s Murder Club books, so maybe that‘s why I thought this was just an okay mystery. I also wasn‘t really in the mood for it. 🤷🏼‍♀️
