Ok, so, here's the thing - the story was lovely, the relationships and characters were really interesting and the main character is relatable. The problem is, I have a daughter. So, as soon as I knew there was a chance that the daughter had died on her flight from Cairo, there was no way I could keep reading. I had to find out what had happened to her, so I missed the entire point of the book - dilemma! I skipped to the end. It's a brilliant book.

It‘s Livia‘s 40th birthday, and her husband Adam is throwing her the party of a lifetime to make up for the wedding they never had. Everyone she loves will be there, except her daughter Marnie, who‘s studying abroad. But Livia is secretly glad Marnie won‘t be there. Livia has recently uncovered a secret about their daughter which, if revealed, will shake
It takes a particularly talented author to be able to articulate in prose the crushing weight of grief, but @baparisauthor achieved this tenfold.
This story is filled with situational irony that maintains secrets in order to preserve familial happiness, only to be annihilated by tragedy. I loved it. I devoured this book in less than a day.
It‘s devastating, but enrapturing and painful.
I loved all her other stuff, so I had a feeling maybe this was something earlier and a bit different? It wasn‘t bad, it‘s just not what met my high expectations haha
Just by reading the premise of the book you wouldn‘t think it would make a suspenseful read but it does! B.A. Paris pulls this off spectacularly well with the husband trying to cover up tragic news at his wife‘s birthday party & the wife keeping a scandalous secret about their daughter. These were well developed characters and you really felt for them as they battle how to tell the other person. Not sure this would make a great film/tv adaptation
These are my first two reads in February, already well into The Dilemma. It's really good.
a quick read and certainly a page turner. really amazing and entertaining. not at all what i expected it to be
I love this author. Like all her books, this one kept me turning the pages to see what really happened. It made me angry, sad, happy, and all the other emotions that you could think of. 1st book for #teamslaughter down.
@Bookgoil @Kappadeemom @rsteve388 my #litsylovefallswap box is on its way! Hope you enjoy. Mine arrived yesterday, can‘t wait to open it.
This book was like a spiral circling tighter and tighter till you knew it would explode. Told from the POV of Livvy and her husband Adam. The reader knows that they are both keeping a serious secret about their daughter Marnie from each other. The news of both secrets will be devastating to their family and closest friends. You know that the truth will come out and when it does, you feel everyone‘s pain. Riveting !
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
I thought the suspense was good. However, I felt like it was very anticlimactic and a disappointing ending. I find this to be forgettable.

I read this in one sitting, so it will get a Pick just for the fact that I couldn‘t put it down. Most of the action in this book takes place over a 24 hour period and revolves around Livvy, who is throwing herself a 40th birthday party. It‘s about family and secrets and is not a twisty thriller like I expected. It was on occasion irritating too, but it did keep me reading.
The title of this book was justly done! I have read some other books by the author and I went into this book expecting it was going to be another thriller. It was my dilemma that I discovered this book was more about family, love and hope. What would you do if you think one of your children has died? Yes, this book was deep and emotional and I wasn‘t expecting that at all.
It was a story of tragedy and loss and grief!

This was such a quick read for me and the short alternating chapters really kept me reading. While I found the story interesting it wasn‘t nearly as thrilling or twisty as I was hoping it would be. The characters were also somewhat annoying, especially Livia. What grown woman puts so much stock into a birthday party just because she didn‘t get her dream wedding? No one I know! All in all a good story about family secrets but no thrills. 🌟🌟🌟 1/2
Few combine suspense with an endearing story the way Paris does. This was a riveting novel surrounding a much anticipated grand 40th birthday. Adam and Liv are still deeply in love with each other but are conflicted with secrets concerning their daughter that will tear their family and friends apart after the party. An hour by hour recount the day of the party question the choices they make-you won't put it down.
@tpixie
The constant stringing out “oh I have to tell. No I‘ll tell later” got aggravating. I just didn‘t find this book on par with the suspense like her others.
I've never read anything by #BAParis but I just took a scroll through her Twitter feed, and it is filled with her supporting and promoting other authors (especially other women), and thanking fans for their support. I always love to see that kind of appreciation and women uplifting women!
For those who are fans: where would you recommend beginning with her works?

I have never read this person. Tell me why you like her? Behind Closed Doors has the highest stars, but it is the best of her work?

This story is set at a party that has been twenty years in the making. Livia has thrown herself a huge 40th party to make up for not having a wedding. We see alternating view points from her and Adam, her husband. They are both withholding secrets from each other about their daughter, Marnie. Some of their motives may be hard to believe. This book is different than the others by Paris. It is a gut wrenching family drama that consumes you.
An unexpected #OneSittingRead rounded out my evening! I couldn‘t tear myself away from this family drama, told by husband and wife in hourly sections all on the day of Livia‘s lavish 40th birthday party that she has been planning for twenty years and both parents are burdened with worries over their 19 year old daughter who can‘t make it... I genuinely couldn‘t put this one down! Thanks, #NetGalley!!
Didn't get many updates in but I still got some reading done (minus the last couple days of course 😉). I didn't read all the books I had planned but my goal was 6 and accomplished it! 4 more books of my #bookspinbonanza list, an ARC that's been sitting for a while and a library hold that was going to expire. Pretty good #readathon stats if you ask me!
Thanks for hosting @Andrew65 I really needed this push 👍

Thank you @StMartinsPress for my lovely ARC. What started out as “I‘m going to read a few chapters, while enjoying a beautiful Saturday afternoon” turned out to be an entire day of reading. I was pulled in from the start of Adam and Olivias story.
So many dilemmas coming from all angles, you didn‘t know which one was the true dilemma until almost the end. What an amazing and sad story that I just could not put down until the end.
