Ray Bradbury's Something Wicked This Way Comes
Ray Bradbury's Something Wicked This Way Comes: The Authorized Adaptation | Ray Bradbury
23 posts | 28 read | 16 to read
Cooger and Dark's Pandemonium Shadow Show howls into Green Town, Illinois, at three in the morning a week before Halloween. Under its carnival tents is a mirror maze that steals wishes; a carousel that promises eternal life, in exchange for your soul; the Dust Witch, who unerringly foresees your death; and Mr. Dark, the Illustrated Man, who has lived for centuries off the misery of others. Only two boys, Will Halloway and Jim Nightshade, recognize the dark magic at work and have a plan to stop this ancient evil--that is, if it doesn't kill them first. Something Wicked This Way Comes is Ray Bradbury's incomparable work of dark fantasy, and the gifted illustrator Ron Wimberly has stunningly captured its sinister magic in gorgeously realized black-and-white art. Complete with an original introduction by Bradbury, Ray Bradbury's Something Wicked This Way Comes: The Authorized Adaptation reintroduces this thrilling classic.

This is the graphic novel/adaptation - I know its an #unpopularopinion but not a fan - the premise interesting - the execution was not good - I got the gist of it (I think) good wins over evil? - hard to follow the prose/poetry?? not sure what it was supposed to be - not sure the book would be any better - so I'll just mark this as read - and another book for #Scarathlon2021 #TeamSlaughter

make a great evening everyone -

My recent book haul. I haven‘t been on here much but I‘ve been thinking about you all!

Life‘s been busy, and lately not super great, but I‘m hoping things are beginning to change! It‘s like Ray Bradbury says: you have to live life as an optimal behaviorist, and when you behave that way you will have a feeling of optimism!

Come on life 🎲🎲; daddy needs a new pair of motivation!

ShyBookOwl Best of luck! And what a beautiful table!! 6y
Spencer_Labbe @ShyBookOwl Thank you! Isn't it great? It's perfect for picture taking ✨ 6y

Reggie Wicked is in my top 10 books of my life but I read it in my 20‘s and I don‘t know if I‘d still feel that way now, I‘ve never reread it. Hope you enjoy it. 6y
Highkick Great book choices! X 6y
Spencer_Labbe @Reggie I'm sure I will! I know a few books like that from my teen years, but I'm glad I read them! 6y
Spencer_Labbe @Kerrioke @rretzler @Hollie @Highkick I'm really excited about this bunch, some of them I already had but they were so cheap! All under 8$ and most of them were 1-3 🌟✨ 6y
BooknerdsLife @Spencer_Labbe Hope everything pick up for you 🍀🍀🍀 Love your books haul👍👍💕 6y
Natascia.Brondino I liked wicked, Maguire is one of my favorite authors; I appreciate the choice of “something wicked this way comes” a de niche novel compared to other classics from Bradbury (at least in my country!)- I suggest to add “the Halloween tree” from Bradbury, you will like it 6y

What a beautifully horrible story about the longings of childhood, the restlessness of 13 year old boys to grow up, the failings of fathers and the desire for youth and then, ultimately only love and laughter can banish evil. Much more than I thought it would be as a book written in 1962. You need to let the language wash over you and take you along on its calliope ride. 5⭐️

I absolutely loved this story about two boys, Will and Jim, neighbors and best friends, who discover the carnival that comes into town at the end of October. Wonderfully written as usual for Bradbury. I love the main theme, which is that laughter and love can drive out the darkness.

The next Sister/Brother book club pick! I wanted to read a classic spooky book and had this one unread on my shelf. I am 20% in and what a surprise, the writing is almost poetic- beautiful (and sinister)👻🎃Takes place on October 24 so I picked that well!

#confession despite beeing super broke and having an seemingly endless pile of books unread at home I just had to buy this. I first bought it for @ephemeralwaltz #cupidgoespostal - but it sounded too interesting to not read it myself, so I had to buy it again😅🙈

ephemeralwaltz I can't wait to read it either!😱 8y

This was my first horror. I have honestly forgotten most of plot, but clearly remember the atmosphere, the feelings of danger and uneasy I got from reading it.🍂🍂
