Me Rosenblum is a German immigrant to the UK, where follows the guidance of a “How to be English” pamphlet and he and his wife try to start a new life. I read this years ago and really liked it. #NewBeginnings #BloomingBibliophiles

🌾”We must not be poppies in the field of wheat”🌾

Mr Rosenblum admonishes his wife on the importance of blending into the English culture above. I have so many emotions listening to this story: sympathy for Rosenblum‘s dreams, irritation at his selfish single mindedness, sadness for Sadie‘s loss and depression, laughter in their fun, and overall worry for their future as I‘m listen to the story unfold.

This book did put a smile on my face and made me laugh at times. I enjoyed the journey of the Rosenblum family. The pronunciation and spelling of 'Mister-Rose-in-Bloom' cracked me up every time I read it. My heart went out to Jakob (Jack) as he just wanted to fit in and be accepted by his peers something I think is all to common to immigrants today which makes this story still relevant.

Nebklvr I have looked at this book several times at the library. Any good? 7y
Andrea313 @Nebklvr So far I like it, but I'm reserving judgement until I finish. :) 7y

A small clump of forget-me-nots poked up between broken pavement slabs and lilted in the wind next to a lamp post. These were memories of the meadows that once covered the ground and that still lurked deep beneath the concrete crust.

I found this book with #silhouettesoncovers on my shelves. I don't really pay a lot of attention to my book covers so there may be more. This was the first book I read by Natasha Solomons, and I really like her writing. #SeasonsReadings2016

So this is the closest I can get to a book about sports. 😂🏌

Jack Rosenblum tries to make a new home in England after escaping Berlin during WW2. To be as English as possible, he decides to build his own golf course.

shawnmooney I hate sports too, but this one looks fun! 8y
Maike @shawnmooney it's more about being English than sports, so it was really fun 😉 8y
