Love Sugar Magic: A Dash of Trouble is a fantasy book about family and friendship. This book takes you into the life of Leonora Logrono and her journey of uncovering her family's big secret, which is that her family has magical abilities. This story follows Leo's journey to discover her abilities and the trouble that follows along.

quote
Macey_Mitchell

“In the morning, the Logrono house spun and hummed like an electric mixer.“

blurb
Macey_Mitchell

This story is meant for readers in the targeted age range of nine to twelve years old. Which after looking over the book I would say I agree with. This book is a bit more of an advanced read for early elementary children as it is much longer in length and has no illustrations to use as depicters to assist in underdoing the plot. It is a true chapter book. Thus, making it appealing to older elementary students.

This story is an example of speculative fiction as it possesses elements including fantasy, magic, and mythological creatures, witches! The main character in this story is Leonora, and the stories plot follows her through the discovery of a family secret in which has been kept from her for many years. Leonora tells the story as to how she found out that her mother, aunt, and four older sisters are all witches. Who use magic in their baking.

quote
ClaudiaPicolo1234

“Leo sat in the front seat with her backpack on her lap, packed full of the spell ingredients and the recipe book.“

blurb
ClaudiaPicolo1234

This book is part of a series, which encourages children to read. Following beloved characters and a consistent narrative structure allows students to predict patterns and understand plot structure. This book is appropriate for children who are between 4th- 7th grade.

Blurb:
This is a good book for 4th graders and beyond. I would use this book as a book club book and since it is in a series, the book would be great to get children into reading and invested in books.

Review:
This is speculative fiction because the characters who appear human are actually witches. They put magic into their baked goods. The main character has the magic ability too but does not want her family to know, at least not right away. She wants to learn about it before she tells them.

Love Sugar Magic - that's exactly what this book is ❤
This goes straight to the heart and makes it the perfect Valentine's Day read. I always had some chocolate aside - perfect match ❤
This book is written with so much love, you can almost taste it. Just as much as you can almost taste all the tasty food the characters are baking and cooking ❤

The series has “sugar” in the title, so you know it‘s gonna be sweet. (Sorry 😜) But it WAS. Really enjoyed this, was grinning & giggling out loud. Exactly what I needed after a garbage week (and year, obvs). Leo is a terrific character & very well done. The author portrays her age perfectly. Also adored the family & how the magic is just part of their regular lives, doesn‘t overtake everything else. Very fun, will def continue the series! 4/5 ⭐️

2nd book read-Middle Grade March Readathon-I wanted to read this book so I changed the prompt😉=book set in another country, well at least is not PR & supposed to be a place I don't like but I ignored that part I want to visit Texas☺️This is a cute, sweet story about Leo who will discover that she is a witch. Love the family relationships and culture traditions. It is a little bit slow for me but I think kids will like it. Thanks @JoScho 3.5

While this specific book wasn‘t on my TBR list I almost want to count it since it was a book I specifically picked up to continue towards completion of #BBRC (MG read over 250 pgs). This was a very cute book that didn‘t make me groan. I guess because it involves family, baking, and magic. I might actually pick up the rest as I enjoyed the concept and hints at future elements.

Very sweet middle grade about a family of brujas.

Leonora is the youngest in a family with five magical daughters. She feels left out, acts out, and shenanigans ensue. Their magic is baking based so the book comes with recipes. I really enjoyed it though I kept yelling at Leo.

The theme of sisterhood and the specific type of love shared by sisters seems to be reoccurring in the media I consume right now.

When Leo discovers that her family of bakers are actually brujas with food magic, she decides she wants to get into the family business ASAP...even if she's "too young." But when she tries to help out her friend Caroline, Leo's spells go a bit awry and the girls scramble to fix them before it's too late.

Super fun read with delightful magic—readers will get hungry for sweet treats, and more stories! Can't wait for the others in the series.

This is a fun middle grade book about 11 year old Leo, the youngest in a family of Mexican ancestry who own a bakery in a small Texas town, who finds out that her older sisters, mother, aunt, and all the females in her family for generations are brujas and have magical abilities which they bake into their bakery goodies. She feels left out of everything & secretly uses her magic even though she's too young to be initiated & trained. Hijinks ensue.

I love a good middle grade and this one was a delight. Leo and her family are brujas who own a bakery and bake magic into sweets. She‘s eleven and wants to do all that her sisters do, there‘s a good bit of snooping and sneaking around and accidental spells. All of it was fun and sweet and I love that there are recipes in the back. It gave me Coco vibes with the family element and both are set with Mexican main characters. It‘s adorable.

Absolutely loved this middle grade novel about Leo, a young Bruja who is navigating her newfound powers and family secrets. The dynamics of her large, loving, and hilarious family were an absolute delight to read, and I especially adored Leo's relationships with her sisters. I just want to hand this book to kids everywhere.
