When the Music's Over
When the Music's Over: The 23rd DCI Banks Mystery | Peter Robinson
18 posts | 12 read | 10 to read
In a remote countryside lane in North Yorkshire, the body of a young girl is found, bruised and beaten, having apparently been thrown from a moving vehicle. While DI Annie Cabbot investigates the circumstances in which a 14-year-old could possibly fall victim to such a crime, newly promoted Detective Superintendent Alan Banks is faced with a similar task - but the case Banks must investigate is as cold as they come. Fifty years ago Linda Palmer was attacked by celebrity entertainer Danny Caxton, yet no investigation ever took place. Now Caxton stands accused at the centre of a historical abuse investigation and it's Banks's first task as superintendent to find out the truth. While Annie struggles with a controversial case threatening to cause uproar in the local community, Banks must piece together decades-old evidence, and as each steps closer to uncovering the truth, they'll unearth secrets much darker than they ever could have guessed . . .

A great procedural featuring Inspector Alan Banks. Newly promoted, he is investigating #MeToo cold case charges involving years of sexual abuse by Danny Caxton. Caxton was a star in the ‘60s and 70s and held on to fame into his old age years; a truly evil man. At the same time, Inspector Annie Cabbot is investigating the gang rape and subsequent murder of a young girl. Good plot, great suspense. I love Peter Robinson!

#WhenTheMusicsOver #PeterRobinson

Peter Robinson‘s books always mentions a lot of music that DCI Banks listens to as he is a music buff!

Eggs This has to be the DCI Banks of the series on Netflix?? 5y
EadieB @Eggs Yes it is! 5y

Just the thing for a break and satisfying fast read. Police procedural with DCI Banks. Must confess I saw the TV series first. The book connects past and current sexual abuse cases; very much en courant with headline news of the moment. Banks very much a slow burner for justice and there is a closure of sorts.

This is my favorite Inspector Banks book. I loved the music and poetry references. Brighton Beach and concerts from the late 60's. Focused mainly on two cases involving young women who were raped. One from the past (1967) and one from the present. I found the book well-written. The characters well-developed. One thing I like about Peter Robinson's books is that he does not disappoint. His books are always very interesting and intriguing.

Guys, I am so late to the #Readathon, but I'm starting now. I still have a goal of 8 hours, but adulting really set me back this morning. Book 1 and I feel like a mystery so I'm going off script already. Peter Robinson is great, so I'm beginning his latest in the Inspector Banks series.

Reviewsbylola 8 hours is my goal too! 8y
Jessicav @Reviewsbylola I've done much better. Starting on hour 4 now... I was waylaid by a nap and bath but am back on track with more tea! Good luck to you! 8y

I have read ALL of Peter Robinson's books and he just keeps getting better! It's so enjoyable to pick up a book and be immediately involved because you know the characters already. In Music you alternate between the two cases they are trying to solve. Peter weaves an intriguing story leaving you wondering how the pieces will all connect, and who really did it! Love all of his books!

Finally finished! I had a hard time concentrating because I've been preoccupied watching the all the storms out in the Atlantic and hoping they don't head this way! It was pretty good. I have to admit though that even though I've read the entire series, I have trouble remembering details from the earlier books because there are so many. This one really didn't stand out too much but I did like it so 👍

#bookisholympics #bookeight I know it's only seven books, but I thought I'd see how many I can read in the week allotted. Plus, coffecup bin! The book was the 23rd Inspector Banks novel & was 480pges. I love this series, but it's starting to show "old characters syndrome" starting to get a bit tired. That said, it was an enjoyable crime novel about a jimmy saville type entertainer & the murder of a young girl. 4?#goingforplatinum?

mhillis Way to go🏆🏅 Love the coffee cup bin!! 8y
Lizpixie @mhillis thank you! The hubby likes to show up with amusing presents for me, he also bought me a coffee travel mug that looks like a camera lens.📷 8y
BookishFeminist I love the bin as well! ☕️ and way to go! You're just flying through these books and it's awesome. 8y
TeR OMG! I have that coffee bin! I made my husband buy it for me... Every time I use it , I smile😄 8y
neet_reads I didn't know I needed a new bin until now! ❤️☕️ Thanks for also convincing me to get the new Inspector Banks. Shopping spreeeeee 8y

#augustofpages #augustphotochallenge #day17 #faveplacetorelax This is my most favourite place in the world, my sanctuary, my peace. My old lazyboy recliner in my library. Picked it up on eBay for $40, had to drive for 1.5hrs to pick it up, worth every penny. It swivels as well as reclines & is the most comfy chair I've ever owned. Lost count of how many times I've dropped off to sleep in this chair, woken up to dawn through the window. This is me.

thegirlwiththelibrarybag Is that Ted.E.Bear?! (Also, ace reading spot) 8y
BekahB That chair looks incredibly comfortable. 😀 8y
Lizpixie @thegirlwiththelibrarybag better than that, it's a TALKING Ted.E.Bear, rugged up for the cold weather we're having here. @BekahB it most definitely is. I practically live in this chair! 8y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag I have a smaller version of Ted 😍 he also talks! He's the best! 8y
NatalieR Looks so warm and cozy! 8y
