so-soI started out liking this but as it progressed it got a little to melodramatic. I can definitely see why this novel caused waves when published- it‘s very scandalous and sexual for its time. However, I‘ve come to realize that I am not a fan of gothic novels as a whole and it seems that not even the drama of murder and lust can change that for me.

pickIt took me many years to come back and finish this novel, but it is Gothic in the extreme, and such a good, good read. Love it!

But I found a Joyce Carol Oates possibility- Zombie - and after reading Black Water, I‘m happy for any excuse to read more of her.
{sigh} This is why I don‘t nap.
I fell asleep earlier tonight while reading. I was awoken after an hour or so. Which is good - I needed to take out my contacts at the very least.
But now I can‘t fall back asleep 😴
Starting this one... we‘ll see how far I get. I‘m secretly hoping it‘s boring 🤣

so-soAnother one read for a challenge. Or I would have bailed.
I've decided to (probably) join in on the #litsyclassics challenge next year! All of these selections I either own or can access for free (most via #serialreader), so it's perfect for not spending money. There are six rereads, but only of books I haven't read since middle school.
I love planning reading lists and then reading whatever I want, so we'll see what happens! I hope at least to get through some of my owned TBR. 😊
