Texas Flood
Texas Flood: The Inside Story of Stevie Ray Vaughan | Alan Paul, Andy Aledort
11 posts | 5 read | 3 to read
The first definitive biography of guitar legend Stevie Ray Vaughan, with an epilogue by Jimmie Vaughan, and foreword and afterword by Double Troubles Chris Layton and Tommy Shannon. Just a few years after he almost died from a severe addiction to cocaine and alcohol, a clean and sober Stevie Ray Vaughan was riding high. His last album was his most critically lauded and commercially successful. He had fulfilled a lifelong dream by collaborating with his first and greatest musical hero, his brother Jimmie. His tumultuous marriage was over and he was in a new and healthy romantic relationship. Vaughan seemed poised for a new, limitless chapter of his life and career. Instead, it all came to a shocking and sudden end on August 27, 1990, when he was killed in a helicopter crash following a dynamic performance with Eric Clapton. Just 35 years old, he left behind a powerful musical legacy and an endless stream of What Ifs. In the ensuing 29 years, Vaughans legend and acclaim have only grown and he is now an undisputed international musical icon. Despite the cinematic scope of Vaughans life and death, there has never been a truly proper accounting of his story. Until now. Texas Flood provides the unadulterated truth about Stevie Ray Vaughan from those who knew him best: his brother Jimmie, his Double Trouble bandmates Tommy Shannon, Chris Layton and Reese Wynans, and many other close friends, family members, girlfriends, fellow musicians, managers and crew members.

I LOVE Stevie Ray Vaughan's music, but sometimes, an artist's work is interesting and the artist isn't, resulting in a biography that shouldn't be written. That appears to be the case here. I also didn't care for the interview format that this book was written in.

Stevie Ray Vaughan's final show, hours before he was killed in a helicopter crash.

SamAnne So sad. I had tickets for a show just days after. Would have been great to see where his career went. I only recently learned that he was the session guitarist on David Bowie's late 80s album--I think the one with China Girl? I went a relistened to it and could completely catch the Stevie vibe. 2y

When I was in the library and saw the spine of this book, I said to myself, "Texas Flood would be a good name for a biography on Stevie Ray Vaughan," but I thought that it would be about an actual Texas flood. Nope!

I adore Stevie‘s music. He‘s one of the guitarists that inspired me to start playing. He was gone too soon. “The world misses his music, but I miss my brother.” — Jimmie Vaughan

emz711 Agreed! One of the greats 5y
Nute Yes! Amazing talent! Sometimes I listen to “Lenny” and “Little Wing” on repeat for over an hour. So many good songs! 5y
