Book 6 in the Maigret Series. Written almost 100 years ago and they were much shorter books, but I really do enjoy these books. #Classics

This Maigret story about a series of frightening events in a French seaside town seemed slow and meandering to me, but everything did come together in a complex and surprising way at the end.

There is no way I would ever has guessed “whodunit” in this tale of secrets and lies. Superintendent Maigret‘s deductive powers, observational skills, and his uncanny ability to ferret out the truth,are a marvel.Because Maigret keeps his conclusions close to the vest,I was in a constant state of anticipation about the next steps in this intricate plot.

I have not read a book of his in a long time. This library find has me going in circles; I really have no clue what is going on. Several unexplained murders in a small village totally changes its tone from one of friendliness and trust to one of fear and suspicion. #porchlife #Simenon

Overall, I enjoyed it, but I especially relished an atmospheric nighttime stakeout on a Concarneau rooftop when Maigret from his position observes across an alley two of his main suspects in silent interaction. It involves a chicken.
