I'm reading Afrodite from the impressive Isabel Allende, a Chilean writer.
That book is about afrodisiac ingredients and recipes, and almost of them are notes telling her experiences, plenty of sensuality, and erotism.

One of her more important books even becomes a movie as The house of the spirits and Of love and shadows.

#IncludesRecipies #BookBinge @Eggs @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I had a copy of this as a teenager and it was a remarkable. From what I remember it was a combination of poetry, paintings, wild recipes, stories that were part magical realism, part mythology, part history…. I should really track down a copy and see if it lives up to my memories.

Eggs Sounds wonderful 🍅🌽🫑🍏 1y

Mehso-so

Kind of interesting, kind of meh. Glad to get it off my #TBR but if I hadn‘t had it both in print to poke through and #audio from the library to listen while walking, I‘m not sure I would have finished it. #BookspinBingo @TheAromaofBooks #19822022 #1997 @Librarybelle

Sapphire I picked this up at a used book sale somewhere just because it was an Allende I hadn‘t heard of. When I went to read it a few months back I was surprised and abandoned it pretty quickly. Maybe I will go back someday. But definitely not before I read Violeta. 3y
Julsmarshall @Sapphire I got it from a used bookstore too and was also pretty surprised! 😳 3y
Librarybelle Way to persevere! 3y

Pickpick

This playful book explores the connection between food and eroticism/sex. It is a mix of the author‘s memories, some recipes, and some historical research. Despite some really disgusting recipes, this book is witty and enjoyable. #nonfiction2021 #booked2021 - by a Latinx author

Cinfhen Hmmm, I‘m not really down for disgusting recipes...but the rest sounds great!!!! I haven‘t been able to finish any of her novels, maybe NF by her will be better for me 🤔 4y
Soubhiville This sounds interesting. I think I‘ll choose this one for her month 😊 #AuthorAMonth for December. (edited) 4y
Simona Just one is really disturbing @Cinfhen the others are okay. I would recommend you and @Soubhiville an audiobook, because I have a feeling that it is more amusing than in print version. 4y

Pickpick

#Gratitude30 Day 18: Unlike her other magical realist novels, this one has nonfiction resonances, brought about by Allende‘s extensive research on #food & aphrodisiacs – which is at the heart of this novel. However, as is Allende‘s trademark, she imbues the telling with naughty humour, amorous twists, & such luscious serpentine language that the reader sees how conjoined gastronomic pleasure is with eroticism. Day 7 #FallIntoBooks #SouthAmericanWriters I've used Isabel Allende for similar prompts but she's the South American writer I'm most familiar with. Introduced to The House of the Spirits in a college Women's World Lit class, I've read a few of her books. Aphrodite is probably my favorite for the sensuous food writing, but The House of the Spirits & Eva Luna are right up there. Island Beneath the Sea & The Japanese Lover are in my #TBR stack. 📚💛

Oh Isabel Allende is so sexy in her book #Aphrodite A Memoir of the Senses which is a collection of delicious and sensuous tidbits, all told with Allende's magical and fascinating storytelling. The memoirs tell of the ancient and instinctal connection between food, sex and love. Deeply intriguing, unique and erotic, with feminist undertones. #allende
