Zoardia was born in Ecuador but raised in the US. And Saenz is a Latino writer. It's the closest I can get to #southamericanwriters in my collection. #falintobooks

She's been on the TBR for so long that it's #awkward to admit I haven't read any of her works yet...

"The Circular Ruins" is one of my favorite short stories. #SouthAmericanWriters #FallIntoBooks @RealLifeReading

I was introduced to Gabriel Garcia Marquez in college--I read Of Love and Other Demons and found it surreal and beautiful and so different from my usual reading. I later read One Hundred Years of Solitude and loved it. That opening! That ending! Then I read Love in the Time of Cholera with a book club and we all hated it. I have yet to find a person who has read and actually liked that book. Anyone??

I kinda dig the look of the Everyman's Library: The uniform spines look sharp on a shelf, and it's a series with the good sense to feature built-in bookmarks.
Day 7 #FallIntoBooks #SouthAmericanWriters I've used Isabel Allende for similar prompts but she's the South American writer I'm most familiar with. Introduced to The House of the Spirits in a college Women's World Lit class, I've read a few of her books. Aphrodite is probably my favorite for the sensuous food writing, but The House of the Spirits & Eva Luna are right up there. Island Beneath the Sea & The Japanese Lover are in my #TBR stack. 📚💛
Sadly, I believe this is the only book that I own of a South American writer. I haven't read it yet, but the reviews are mixed. It'll sit on the #tbr shelf a little while longer, I think.

A few other wonderful South American & latin Caribbean authors that I've loved over the years including a very powerful memoir about one man's experience with dual prejudice, as both a black Cuban, & then as an African American once he came to the United States.
