Venus and Aphrodite | Bettany Hughes

This was an informative look at the history and mythology surrounding Aphrodite/Venus - from her ancient Mesopotamian ancestor Ishtar, to Inanna and Astarte, and finally her Greek and Roman forms. While a little academically dry in tone, which caused me to switch to audiobook, it is a fascinating history of a goddess who is so much more than modern patriarchy gives her credit for being.

While I am obsessed with Greek mythology, I cant say I know much about Aphrodite. I enjoyed this one a lot.

I am posting one book per day from my extensive to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it, I just do. Some will be old, some will be new. Don‘t judge me - I have a lot of books. Join the fun if you want.

Short but packed full of information. I love the author's history documentaries so when I read this I can hear her explaining it to me. A lovely book to dip in and out of to be able to feel immersed in myth and history.

It was a bit brief, but there's definitely some interesting stuff here. I didn't know about the Aphrodite-Aphroditos cult, for instance. Very readable, too.

This was a good read and the last of my Olympians comics. It wasnt my favorite, Poseidon was, but this was still a good one.

Aphrodite: Goddess of Love | George O'Connor

So I am currently in a Greek gods kick. (I go through kicks sometimes anywho...). This book series by George O'Conner is what got me started on it. I was looking for a comic book and this crossed my path. Now I'm finding more than the original six books he intended when he published the Zeus story. Absolutely love this book series!

I love that O‘Connor incorporated both versions of Aphrodite‘s birth, and her rationale for the stupid argument among the goddesses (golden apple of Eris, who is hilarious, by the way). However, she‘ll never be my favorite Olympian (my daughter‘s, though, at the moment).

The pink theme wasn‘t working for me. Hopefully this slightly changed theme will work better and inspire some creativity and enjoyment to post. I‘m feeling really emotional and down today, I‘ve heard some things that have upset me and broken my heart because they mean that there is no hope here for such matters and that is painful to swallow. Hope you‘re all having a better day. 🖤🌻 #bookblog #bookworm #booklover #greekmythology #classicist

Good morning beautiful souls 🌸💗

I‘m still working my way through E. M. Beren‘s Myths and Legends of Ancient Greece and Rome. It‘s a really good collection of the myths and one of the best I‘ve read so far so I‘m savouring it and taking it slowly. Beautiful books need to be savoured in the mind to get all the subtle pieces and fullest enjoyment.

What is a book that you like to savour? #booklover #greekmythology #classicist

Utopiyll I savour this one 😭 it is so beautiful, and written with such amazing prose uncommon for this time! I always take my time when reading it. 6y
