Mehso-so

This could have been a brilliant, sharply observed satire. There are moments of brilliance, where the author takes a pop at giant corporates and corrupt politicians, but running through the novel is the protagonists lewd thoughts, and vulgar sex scenes. Perhaps I‘m too prudish, but they dragged down both the tone and the pace of the book.

This was my #BookSpin read, glad it‘s off the TBT!

RaeLovesToRead From what I remember of this one, I thought it was ok (Schteyngart is a decent writer), but I found the MC to be really unappealing as a person without enough humour to pull it back. I enjoyed Super Sad True Love Story when I read it a decade ago, but I reckon I'd be more critical if I read it now! 4y
TheAromaofBooks I haven't read this one but it seems like sometimes authors feel like they need to make their books “gritty“ to feel more realistic or something, and I'm not a fan haha 4y

We started rearranging furniture, had to empty out the bookshelves. I embraced the opportunity to re-sort my books. It will be fun to categorize them properly, I said.
It has now been a week and I have lost steam. I forsee things staying this way for quite a while.

Ruthiella Good luck! I would like to come help. I love organizing other people‘s things. 4y
Therewillbebooks @Ruthiella Ha! You'd do a better job than me. 4y
Nute This is something that I long to do with my bookshelves, but I don‘t know where to start.🤦🏽‍♀️ 4y

This is what happens when I find a thrift store in the city over the weekend. I come out with a pile of books in a mini #bookhaul to add to the #TBR mountain. All for $8. #newin #bookworm ❤️📚⛰️😂

I noticed a trend. I am officially enforcing a book buying ban. 🤔😜🤐

Today‘s #GrabandGo book and a little treat to start the day. With the archaeology volume I wrote/edited going to layout next week and the YA book festival I worked on over and done, I have a little time to decompress. Better yet, the dusting of snow on the ground is melting, the sun is shining, the birds are warbling and I think, at long last, spring is in the air! ❄️☀️🐥🌸

A year ago, a friend passed me his unwanted books. He knew that I would adopt them without questions. I have them under my desk at work for the longest time, and now it‘s time for them to come home with me.

Do you see anything interesting? All of sudden, my TBR has gone wild!!!

LeahBergen Is that Don‘t Lets Go to the Dogs Tonight? I liked that one and English Passengers, too. 👍🏻 (edited) 7y

TheBookAddict The Giver was good, I enjoyed it. 7y
Billypar I can vouch for the tagged book if you're looking for a funny geopolitical satire with a memorable main character (who's hard not to love, IMO). 7y
EvieBee Alexandra Fuller is always a good time! (edited) 7y
BarbaraBB So many books and I only read One Day, which was okay, but just that. 7y
Reggie Sick Puppy is hilarious. 7y
Kaye English Passengers is very good. An intricate story, so it takes patience to stick with it, but very good. 7y
BookishMe I am in a similar spot and fingers crossed I don't take that long to get started on the newly-adopted books 7y
