The hardships that Martin Pistorious had to go through is heartbreaking. From abuse at the hands of carers to seeing his family downward spiral. I can't even imagine. However I did love reading about how he met and married his wife.

The book was amazing and heart breaking. One moment he's a normal boy and the next he's sick and suffers through a life of pain that no one should go through. He still made the best of his life even with everything he went through.

This is a true story of the Author Martin, one day coming home from school with a sore throat, only to become a mute quadriplegic.
One day his mind becomes awake, and then he starts his challenge to work with computers, and teaches himself, with the help of his family, to communicate once again.
This is simply written from the perspective of a man who suffered from locked in syndrome for years. He was aware of his surroundings and understood what was happening around him, but couldn‘t communicate and required total care. A worker in his daycare facility noticed his awareness and testing was done. He can now communicate with devices, works, is married, and is a father. I would have liked to know more clinical info about the illness. 3/5⭐️s
Catching up on some reviews the next few days. Although this has some content involving sexual abuse that was a little graphic, the read was very interesting. The writing style was bland but the topic was great! I enjoyed the read.

Just get this book and read it! Martin was a normal boy in South Africa until one day he came home sick. Unbelievable story! He couldn‘t speak, walk, or function but his family never gave up. Only look at the pictures as you read through Martin‘s story.👍🏼6 stars!!!⭐️🌟⭐️🌟⭐️🌟

Martin Pristorius escaped a life limited by other people's understanding of his potential. He has a career, and found love and does not live with his parents, or in an institution. Nothing can take away from his tremendous accomplishments, nor make up for the horrible treatment he received. My reaction to the book is a reflection on the storytelling, rather than on the story itself. There are many ways to tell a story; this one did not grip me.
While the story of Pistorius' recovery was amazing, the way this book was structured was uneven. The author frequently used terms like "last night" in the story when that actual episode was well in the past. Confusing. Narration was proficient. Note: I'm not an expert on South African accents.
I've given up on The Courage to Act (boring!), so I've moved on to this #ArmchairAudies title. Much better so far. Narrated by Simon Bubb. Fascinating look at a boy trapped in his own body. It would be scary if I didn't know he wrote this book.
