This is Cawdor Castle, the home of Shakespeare‘s Macbeth, it is also the childhood home of Liza Campbell. I‘m still working on this book but it‘s interesting and I plan to finish it this weekend because my husband will be in Nevada with my dad and my children will be up in Cambridge with friends and I will be all alone at home with my dog and #HAMILTON!!! #bookspin #june
Parts of this memoir were fascinating, especially when relating family history. Other parts were tedious. Campbell certainly had a story to tell after her troubled upbringing due to her horrible father and her mother who stayed despite all of the cheating and abuse. I just wish she had told it with more direction.
I have been bad again this month and there is still one more shipment on the way. This entire stack is used so I did not really spend that much money but I am supposed to be getting through the books I already own and not searching for even more creative storage ideas. Most of these are #blameitonlitsy purchases and I am so excited to get to them all whenever that actually happens. I‘ll be good next month...

My favorite memoir that I‘ve read recently is told by Liza Campbell detailing growing up as the daughter of the 25th Thane of Crawdor Castle. Her father spent most of his time #wasted and cheating on his wife as his responsibility grew too much for him, leading to his downfall and the end of his legacy. Liza‘s life was a dark and twisted real live fairytale.
Liza Campbell grew up in Castle Cawdor in Scotland. She and her sister found a secret room that could only be reached from outside. When their father went on one of his rampages, they would scamper up there and take refuge until the coast was clear. #castles #magicalmarch
I found this memoir of Liza Campbell beautifully written and very poignant. She grew up in a Scottish castle as the daughter of the 25th Thane of Cawdor Castle and her life was anything other than a fairytale. She recounts family memories that at times are sweet and at other times tragic. There are stories of adultery, alcoholism, and abuse with a backdrop of Scottish reels, hunting parties, and high Society life. Thank you @aprilpohren !
This was a good book exploring Liza's life growing up in Macbeth's castle, although it dealt mainly with her Dad rather than herself. I particularly enjoyed the bits detailing the history of the castle and the family - fans of the Outlander series will recognise names and events described in here.
4 ⭐ as it was difficult to read in certain places because of the abuse - I'll put the triggers in a spoiler.
I am so overwhelmed by your thoughtfulness and generosity @aprilpohren ❤️❤️❤️.!!! This box is so full of wonderful goodies! And the books! I‘m so excited to read each and every one. Oh my gosh, I can‘t thank you enough. 😘 #secretsantagoespostal
This book has been DEEP on my TBR! But I‘m finally getting around to it. Check out my husky in the background showing y‘all what the charmed life really is. #tbr #finally #lizacampbell
A good family story with lots of potential for delving into some important issues. However, Liza dealt with major emotional stuff superficially. Maybe it was difficult for her to write about her feelings. Maybe she should try again later with another memoir. Maybe it was too early. 3/5 stars
"My story is only one slender wedge of the pie"-Liza Campbell
My new read. I am already hooked.
Really interesting deep dive into Other People's Problems. Fascinating look at family dynamics and addiction. The author is frank and funny, unsentimental but doesn't treat her subject matter lightly. I have fallen down the Google rabbit hole to follow up on happened after.
"Bespoke murder! In the name of good taste!" It took three tries to finally get going on this book. SO happy I persevered!
