Another Litsy recommend, this one from @BookishFeminist - with a gorgeous cover like this, which has such a lovely texture that I can't keep stroking the dust jacket – I just had to have a paper copy!
OMG YOU GUYS IT'S BACK. 😱
THE ATTACK OF THE GENDERED ADVERB.
I'm dying over this. At least he provides more descriptors than in the last book we saw this, & it's used in a way that makes more sense, but I knew y'all from my last thread about manful inhaling might appreciate this. 💀
😂😂😂😂
This book most closely describes the surreal world I experienced living in Haiti. The author perfectly balances the wonder, the beauty, and the daily struggle to survive. The impact of the int'l non-governmental organizations is obvious everywhere. The work they do is valuable, without question, and at the same time, cripples the country. The mangled system for assigning UN aid is a farce. I always wondered why the garbage trucks were from Taiwan.
#SelfCareSunday w/books & iced tea. Need to finish this book before it's due. 🍹
It's really good—it provides a thorough and empathetic understanding of the harsh realities of Haiti's economic and political structure. Better than I was expecting since it's written by a white guy, but it's obviously well-researched. The writing is lyrical and beautiful. ☀️🌺
And yes, Starbucks is my second home. 🙃

Great book + blueberry scone + macchiato with all of the espresso + relaxing in bed = Wednesday afternoon perfection 🍪☕️📗
"All veins are made for blood."—I really love this quote from Peacekeeping, which is meant to remind us that despite our differences of opinion & appearance, we are all the same at our roots. What a great way to summarize our oneness without negating our differences. ? #Haiti
I also found this on the Library Must Read shelf and since @BookishFeminist and @Spiderfelt recommended it - I picked it up 😀
Next up. Really excited for this one! It takes place in Haiti, where a former sheriff & failed politician goes to work for the UN after going broke in the 2008 financial crisis. He winds up helping to train the Haitian police but gets wrapped up in local politics & scandal. Also can we take a minute to drool over this beautiful cover?! 🌺 Starting this as an intense tropical thunderstorm rolls through makes a perfect Monday afternoon. ⛈
