And finished! A delightful start to a series I‘ve heard many friends rave about and I can‘t wait to continue. Also I have to love a book with a pretty step back. Just a little slow to start but otherwise a very exciting and entertaining read.

Rereading this to start a binge of the Maiden Lane series. I read this when it came out, and I remember enjoying it but never returning to the series for some unknown reason. On reread I realize I must remedy that. A historical romance with suspense and adventure! I plan on finishing this morning! #weekendreads #romantsy

Weird & random scene changes, which at first at totally confusing & then ultimately frustrating because none of these random subplots were resolved. It‘s like the author tried to get this book classified as something other than romance. But what exactly she was aiming for is anyone‘s guess.

There are other issues with this book, like character development, but some of that is because pages were wasted with subplots.

I really enjoyed Temperance and Caire. I disliked all the side plots and the setups for the next books in the series, especially Silence‘s storyline. (I like my companion novels to be a bit less intertwined.) I thought the mystery wrap up was weak but that was fine since I was really there for the couple. I loved the audio narrator, though I did read the last bit so I could go a bit faster (and skim the parts I was less interested in). #romantsy

On the one hand I thought the heroine and hero were unique and interesting, with pretty great sex scenes. I also appreciated how the author didn't sanitize the 1700s, including poverty, brothels, violent crime, drinking, etc. On the other hand, there was more than one loose end at the end that gave it an unfinished and unsatisfying feel. Plus, the fact that the plot is moved forward by the death of sex workers doesn't sit well with me. #Romantsy

Listening to this audiobook and getting to the sexy parts while being out in public is a bit awkward. 😬 #Romantsy

This book was fantastic! It's been awhile since I've read a historical romance novel and all the characters were written very well, especially Temperance and St. Clair! I also liked the fact that this world is not as idealistic as most historical romance novels are as the world is filled with crime and danger. Starting my Maiden Lane journey.

I finally started the Maiden Lane series. Love the dark and gritty tone. The deep sensuality. The mystery. Looking forward to the next in the series. #romantsy

Meant to read my stack of library books today, but it turns out I was in the mood for some romance instead. 😍 Finished the first 2 books in the Maiden Lane series. 💜 #romance #romantsy

It was an interesting read to say the least. I found the characters very interesting and the story was well paced. I was completely drawn in by Lazarus and Temperance. They work so hard to understand each other when they are such different people. At times the language from Lazarus was a bit course for me, which I found jarring and was surpised by this. Now that I think on it, it makes sense for him but still the only quibble I had.

I have a Kindle #ereader but I almost never use it. Once I got a smart phone it just became easier to use my phone! I don't buy many e-books and I usually borrow from my library. I do, however, tend to buy lots of cheep! romances that I find from Early Bird and BookBub, I believe I found Wicked Intentions from BookBub or from Litsy, so #BlameItOnLitsy.

This is one of my very most favorite series. I highly recommend it (especially since it's FREE)!!

I listened to the #audiobook version, and the narrator was fantastic. Lord Caire was the type of hero I adore - He knows what he wants, doesn't think he deserves her, yet doesn't want to let her go either. I loved that Temperance was straightforward and would thwart convention to get what she wanted. 4.5 Hearts!

Sadrzi sve sto moze zadrzati moju pozornost: romansu, misterij, ubojstvo. Radnja je dobra i brzo se razvija. Ako trazite dobru ljubavnu pricu zacinjenu sa daskom misterija, predlazem vam da procitate ovu knjigu. Dodatan bonus: nekoliko odlicnih "kinky" prizora.

I really enjoyed this one! I have a weakness for Victorian historical romance & I can't believe I've not read any of Hoyt's books before! This was steamy, historically accurate, and touching. I look forward to reading more of her books. 🔥🔥🔥🔥

I keep hearing about the Maiden Lane series - and then the first one pops up on NetGalley - surely serendipity?!

This was better than I expected, so 4 stars because I will read more in the series. Regency( or technically Georgian based on the year 1736). Tortured hero with demons and a few kinks, heroine, proper yet widowed, so not unworldly in the ways of physical desires, but has her secrets and demons too.

Darker than I would have preferred but entertaining anyway. I wish there was something between like and so-so because my feelings fall somewhere in between.

First of a series. Will be interested to see how it goes.
