With no parental rights she and Allie live in limbo while Allies biological mother makes space for the girl in her life. Allie befriends Morgan who has been in foster care. When Morgan disappears and Allie chases after her, Char learns what it means to be a mother.
panI don't remember the last time I bailed on a book after 15 pages. From page 1, the characters were flat and the dialogue was stiff. Then someone entered a scene, and someone said aloud to her BEST FRIEND, "Oh that's Morgan, she's from those meetings every Monday at 2pm at the high school and she's friends with Allie who is my daughter." Nope, that's not how you introduce a character. Saturday's too short for that nonsense.
Have spent the whole last week of my summer break painting and cleaning. I'm finally taking a few minutes to start Untethered. Don't know much about it at this point, but I'm hoping it is a nice, relaxing read.
so-soI absolutely loved this author's first book, Five Days Left, so I was very excited when this one was published. Alas, I did not enjoy it nearly as much. I found it to be full of frustrating and one-dimensional characters as well as completely implausible situations. That said, I did finish the book so it wasn't all bad. Just disappointing.

pickLoved this book! About moving on and finding yourself again after the loss of a loved one. Well written from the first page to the end!
Another title for my weekend reading. Explores the meaning of family and parenting in terms of step-families and widowhood.
pickPretty decent book. Death, parenting and adoption issues are front and center. I know two families that have adopted children and the children are now with another family. Very heartbreaking.

I'm having some feelings while reading this one. We'll see how it goes; I'm about half way.
pickI was stunned by all the topics introduced into this book. Exploring the dynamics of being a step parent to a child after the loss of their primary biological parent, and the lack of involvement of the other biological parent AND the flaws in the child welfare system. Written so well into a story!
