So-So
I enjoy Manson‘s style and didn‘t have a problem with it feeling choppy like some others experienced. Everything eventually tied back to itself. The end was a little out of the blue, though.
Overall, a solid read. After diving into the book immediately after reading The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F*ck, I expected the contents of this book to be an expansion of the first book's points applied to a broader scope but I was pleasantly surprised to see actual fresh ideas on this book. It has it's issues - like the first book, Mark tends to repeat a lot of his points but overall not a huge deal. I enjoyed the Newton part the most. 7/10.
March 2021 - nonfiction - deep and not super positive but it was full of chewy thoughts and discussion
Feb 2021 - self help - started the audio and loved it so much I‘m buying it so I can really read it. Happiness is a thought provoking book and well applied swear words
I was scrolling through my library‘s offering of high-demand short-loan digital audiobooks and noticed something that these titles have in common. 🤭
That‘s pretty much the dark, nihilistic, real truth.... Way to set the tone of the book. Still love it
⭐️⭐️⭐️ Significantly less swearing than The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck. 😂 Here, Manson brings up some interesting points about the brain, religion, politics, etc, and how we respond to various situations and ideas. Some folks might be offended by the religion bits, so keep that in mind if that‘s a sensitive area. I didn‘t love this, but it was a decent way to spend a few hours.

The more I read the tagged book, the more I see this quote standing out. Had to share my little motivational quote with you! :)
Book 163 of 2020

I‘ve got this book spontaneously somewhere in Netherlands. The great book comes with the right reason and in a right time. It‘s all about being consistent with hope, actions, understanding of pain in life and self-understanding. Nothing new but a bunch of right thoughts in a right time)
It's easy to feel like 2020 is the worst year in existence, sure to end in our annihilation, but Mark Manson helped me to remember that everything has always been fucked, and that what each of us need more than anything in the world, is a little bit of irrational hope, because the fact is, we live in a world that has never, and will never, make sense.

Personally, I like the book, but there are some chapters which were quite boring to read. Overall, the book was ok
I don‘t even care if this is good or not; I needed to read it.
Today. #needsomehope #mood
I like this one less than his first (SAONGAF) and feel that his edginess hasn‘t improved over time. He has a tendency to over-simplify or exaggerate as needed to support his premises, and to declare his opinions as facts. The whole “AI overlords will save us from ourselves” bit was too much for me, too. Manson and I are about 70% on the same page (heey) but this was mostly a miss for me.
My self-help section consists mostly of the word F*ck. Was it as good as Subtle Art? No. Probably because it wasn‘t as relatable as Subtle Art. That book was a slap in the face to fix yourself. This book isn‘t really helpful in trying to solve the problem. It‘s more like, we are what we are and that‘s how the world turns. Was it enjoyable? Oh hell yeah. I love his writing; it‘s still a slap in the face but maybe a little less personal.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Seems an appropriate choice! #currentlyreading
This is an interesting and challenging (in a good way) read. I don't agree with some of his arguments, and I didn't find it as punchy and witty as The Subtle Art Of Giving A Fuck (but maybe that's an unfair comparison). It's good to challenge your ways of thinking about the world and life in general though, and he certainly does that. And there's lots of swearing which is big and funny and clever.
it's really bothering me that he's pronouncing Nietzsche 'nee-chee'.
I loved his book The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck, so was so pumped for this book. It was hilarious and insightful. I really enjoyed it. Not as good as The Subtle Art, but still good.
1 book + coffee + cat = happiness 🥰
I haven't read the author's best seller "The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck", but I'm really enjoying this one ⭐ (local translation of the title is "The Subtle Art of Despair")
Not as good as his first book, but there are definitely gems in here that resonated and I e thought about every day since I‘ve finished. It‘s ok I still recommend.
While I didn't think it was as good as his first book, I still found parts enjoyable and entertaining. This book actually makes a good companion work to Civilized to Death. Both books are about how humans are wired one way and modern civilization is wired another, and we spend our time banging our head against a wall trying to force either reality to conform to our minds, or our minds to reality. No wonder everything is f*cked. 3 💥💥💥 1/2
That's why 99.9% of self-help books are crap.
1. Everything is F*cked, NFL Century, The Long Way to A Small Angry Planet, End Times and Rejected Princesses
2. 2 E-books, 2 physical books, 4 graphic novels
3. Read something you would usually never read.

I've been trying to read this book for weeks now. I'm halfway and I'm bailing. This is nothing like his first book, it doesn't read as self improvement just him giving his opinions on religions and people. Not so much a book about hope as a book of everything that he sees as wrong with the world. #catsoflitsy Alice's timing was perfect to be in the photo!
Time for something non-fiction
The book was well-written, it pulled me along and taught me a few things even as I disagreed with the core premise of it. Personally, I like the concept of hope and it has pulled me out of more than one rut. I can‘t equate it with both everything good and bad in humanity. I feel like hope paired with kindness would be a better solution than what the author expects regarding AI. I might suggest this book to a nihilist, but that‘s not me.
Currently reading everything is f*cked
It's my first nonfiction book about life and self help.
Enjoying it so far..🌱🥰

Unlike Mark‘s last book, this book is way different from what you would thought it would be. Too complicated at times ...! ! But powerful enough to put you down in deep thinking 💭 The facts and real incidents are really worth knowing. #selfHelpBook #psychologicalBook🎀 #book6of2019
Late check in for #BFC week 1. Happy to say I surpassed my fitness goal of 60,000 steps for a total of 71,597 steps!!! I am listening to an audiobook that I‘m having a hard time getting into and I've finished one of three books that I have on the go. Not a bad week. @wanderinglynn #BFC #BFCr2 #BFCphotochallenge
A quick read with some thought provoking ideas.
Flight to Denver had been delayed. Hello Litsy, it‘s been a minute
I keep zoning out. I don‘t think I‘m in the proper mood for this.
#audiobook on the way to work. Very appropriate as I just got some not so great news about my nephews health. 😞 Hopefully this will help me gain som prospective.
I was lucky enough to snag this when it arrived at my library. I‘m loving it so far! 🎧📚💕
Absolutely excellent!
This book is well researched and well written. Manson is insightful and hilarious. While reading I felt both hopeful and nihilistic. This book challenges the reader in the best mind-expanding way. I imagine even those who disagree with the points of views presented here, would still come away having learned something and glad they did.
