This was really good!
This was really good!
A pretty good stand-alone Christie with some actual danger to the MCs. Bobby is with a dying man after they think he accidentally falls off a cliff. He & his friend Frankie start investigating after some other events.
This was one of my oldest books. It was an enjoyable story. Not quite the same like the Hercule Poirot or Miss Marple series, but there was still a mystery at its center, which I didn't guess ahead of time.
TBR since May 19th. 2010; 191 pages.
I know I asked for more plucky heroines, but I missed my Poirot! This one was cute and fun, but had almost nothing to do with golf. That cover misled me.
And thus ends my Agatha Christie week! The husband is back and I finished 8 Christies and started ABC Murders (once I finish I'll be all caught up with #agathachristieclubr2). The children refused to let me read much, so I mostly listened. Hugh Fraser and Joan Hickson are just perfection!
This one reads a bit like a farce, with some fairly ridiculous characters and a pretty unlikely plot. The tone actually reminded me a little of Cold Comfort Farm. Enjoyable, I suppose, but not one I expect to return to.
I continue to make my way through the #agathachristieclub reads in chronological order, & this surfaced as one of the Christies I don't think I've read before. It's a standalone mystery--no Marple, Poirot, or Tommy & Tuppence--& it's pretty fun. Irreverent, lively, with a fizz & zest about it as befitting a novel featuring amateur detectives of the "bright young things" era. However, the mystery itself was a bit of a dud & did nothing for me.
The mistery definetely isn't one of Dame Agatha's best, but I loved the plucky heroine and the sense of adventure.
I really enjoy when Christie writes a young woman detective. And it was nice to get back to a novel after so many short stories. This did have a couple of really ridiculous reaches but generally was a fun romp.
4. The 1980 adaptation of this novel was the first authorized adaptation in decades, after a few failed attempts during Christie's life that soured her to the idea. This lead to all the classic BBC adaptations we love today: Poirot, Miss Marple, Tommy and Tuppence. Why do you think this novel was selected? How does it lend itself well to adaptation over other, more famous works?

3. How do Frankie and Bobby stack up against Tommy and Tuppence? #agathachristieclubR2
2. Christie uses the light tone from her international intrigue novels and applies it to a more straightforward mystery. Did you this this hybrid was successful? What other similarities did you find to her light thrillers? #agathachristieclubR2
It's time for our March #agathachristieclubR2 book discussion! Only one week late with the questions, haha!
As always, please look at all the following posts for the rest of the questions, and please tag anyone who has already commented to keep the discussion going.
1. Did you enjoy this book? Why or why not?
#BookReport - Pretty good progress this week. Strangely, being busy at work has led to more reading - I'm just too tired to want to do anything more difficult than sitting on the couch in the evenings 😂 Quidditch & Prince Caspian are my ongoing chapter-a-day reads & I'm enjoying both. I didn't review Defiant Dreams, which was an absolutely absurd little romance about a southern belle sent north during the ⬇
Another fun read for #AgathaChristieClubR2 - I really enjoyed this little romp although there were a few things that left me scratching my head haha (I'll put my biggest question in a spoiler below). This one is AKA Why Didn't They Ask Evans? and that title probably makes more sense. Not only was this my #DoubleSpin for March, it took me to my first stop in Wales (Denbighshire) for #SeparatedbyaPondTour !! @Andrew65
#WeeklyForecast - another busy week ahead!! I'm starting new books for #PotteraDay & #NarniaReadalong & hoping to read the tagged for #AgathaChristieClubR2 (its aka is Why Didn't They Ask Evans?) I only have one short story left in Don't Look Now, but I am not sure I am going to get to my reread of Rebecca this month after all. Can't believe it's time to start reserving April reads at the library!!!
@Cinfhen
I‘m still going through Christie‘s work chronologically. I‘m not sure if the #agathachristieclubR2 is still going, but 🤷🏻♀️ I‘m still going to read all of Christie.
This one was really good! So clever. I loved Bobby and Frankie. Such a great mystery she unraveled here.

Enjoyable as always. Funnier than I remembered! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Completely broken emotionally, so another AC reread on my phone it is.
I didn‘t have high hopes for this one as I usually dislike Emilia Fox‘s narration, but she wasn‘t as obnoxious as with the Marple books, and Bobby and Frankie were absolutely delightful sleuths. They reminded me of Tommy and Tuppence, who I adore. Plenty of red herrings to keep the reader guessing as well.
If I keep reading the eBooks I‘ve downloaded, I might run out of reading material and have to buy new books, right? #myyearwithagatha
An accident, suicide or murder? When Bobby finds the body of a man at the base of a cliff, the strange question posed by the dying man sends him on a quest to discover the truth. A solid Agatha Christie, with twists and turns and clues galore.
My boy is playing football (soccer) in this awful weather, I‘m hiding in my car with an Agatha Christie and a coffee. #GloriousBritishWeather #AgathaChristie #BadMum #LoveToRead
I remember watching the adaptation for this and finding the solution so intriguing. It's not great Christie, but, as usual, it satisfies. #agathachristieclub @Bambolina_81 #pop19 #bookwithaquestioninthetitle
No Poirot or Miss Marple in this one! This mystery involves two amateur sleuths investigating the death of a mysterious stranger and his final words. Not one of Christie‘s best, but still a fun read.
So much down time at a swim meet. Guilt free afternoon of reading with periodic breaks for cheering on the girl!
I love the Poirot and Miss Marple books but her stand alone stories are remarkable.
A stand alone which I thought was going to be a Poirot so I was even more off the track than usual.
Appropriate reading for the Olivier Cafe, scene of a murder that had the whole country agog for months
It was a good one! I loved Bobby and Frankie and it was well written 🙂 Right now I just enjoy reading every Agatha Christie Book I can get my hands on 😂📚😍
I get really annoyed with the more recent ITV adaptations of Marple. They add Marple to stories she's not in, then while they're at it they change the murderer, change the motive, add ridiculous subplots, and in the case of Evans, DELETE characters but then ADD DIFFERENT ONES. WHAT IS THE POINT OF THAT 😡 JUST WRITE YOUR OWN DAMN 1930s MYSTERIES and leave Agatha's name out of it!
#emojinov day 11: 😡
Freaking finally...finished my first book of October! And it might not look like much, but this is the first night in 19 days this floor isn't covered with our mattress. We get to sleep in our bedroom and construction is done! 🙌
Yesterday's post-client presentation golf course view.
Finished one book on the plane, brought a trusty Agatha to dive into for fun.
Just washed my hair with Curley Whirley A Coconut Shampoo by Lush. Feels and smells beautiful. #lush #organic #vegan #coconut #agathachristie #crime #girlswhoread #booknerd #pretty #books
A really terrific and unpredictable Christie mystery! Much as I love Poirot and Miss Marple, it was refreshing to have the investigation taken on by 2 young friends, complete amateurs, in the English countryside.
Wonderfully fun story that I finished on a flight to Dublin. Was so totally absorbed in the mystery and its twists and turns that I was pleased to have all the time to dedicate to it without stopping. If you're looking for a quick, fun read then look no further!
