Great read!!!! I don‘t like many romance-y books but this one was actually really good! I loved Rafe‘s story and I felt like I could connect with him even though I didn‘t always agree with his choices. 5⭐️ (photo featuring Melinda May AKA Mellie. #DogsOfLitsy

I loved this book! Several times throughout the book I found myself giggling at how awkward Raf was. I really enjoyed this book and I can't wait to read the next one.

I enjoyed this read. It was an interesting look at the weight we give to labels, especially when it seems that that label is the only socially interesting thing people think about you. #lgbt #queerbook #lgbtliterature #lgbtq #lgbtcharacter

Rafe is gay and out with a very supportive family but tired of feeling defined as “the gay guy.” So when he starts at a new school, he decides not to tell anyone and to just be “normal.” This ends up going about how you would expect when he falls in love. It is sweet, funny, and entertaining with some good messages.

🌟🌟🌟🌟
Openly Straight is a sweet story about Rafe who is out. Or used to be. Once he moves to his new school, he decides to not be openly gay. He says he isn't lying or trying to avoid a label. But when he falls for the big, cute, sentimental Ben, suddenly he is all confused. This was such a bittersweet story. I understood why the author didn't go for a fairytale ending. It made sense.

CoffeeNBooks I liked this book, and also understood why the author didn't write a fairytale ending. I also read the sequel, Honestly Ben. 6y
tokyoseg Is the ending at least satisfying and brings closure, or just frustrating? 6y
ChaitanyaSethi @CoffeeNBooks I thought I should wait a while before going to the next book. I think I won't wait and just dive in :P 6y
ChaitanyaSethi @tokyoseg The ending is definitely reasonable and makes sense. It isn't indicating closure because there are other books in the series. 6y

Interesting perspective. Rafe is a mess but I like him. His decisions have disaster written all over them. Much like his parents (who I LOVED) you just want him to be happy.

Listened to this heartwarming book on audio. A quick story about a boy who is out in his hometown of Boulder, CO and then moves to Massachusetts for prep school and essentially goes back into the closet. Then he deals with all that means for him and who he is and how he interacts with others. Some parts were a little eye roll-y but otherwise good. I️ think I️ will pick up the sequel.

Texreader Love this hashtag! I just cataloged my audible books. Will have to post. 7y
tricours Wow, that‘s a lot of titles! What kind of subscription have you go? 7y
WanderingBookaneer @tricours I have one book a month, but I‘m a fan of Audible Daily Deals. And I have this thing about if adding Audible to a Kindle purchase makes it cost less than the paperback, I add it. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 7y
DivaDiane Oh, I‘ll have to do this! That‘s a lot of books in your library! I have a one book a month subscription but I fell behind a few years ago and am trying hard to catch up. 7y

Although the writing in this book was great and the ending had an interesting bit of self-reflection, Rafe made me want to pull my hair out too many times to actually enjoy reading it as much as I would have liked to. I might still buy Honestly Ben when it comes out in March in hopes that he won't put me through so much frustration but who knows. I am still very curious about how all the conservative kids in Mass got herded into one school though.

Fucking finally Rafe's bad decisions are biting him in the ass. I've never been so glad for something bad to happen to the MC

Rafe is seriously the most exhausting narrator ever. If you want people to play along with your fucking game then you have to tell them what the moves are beforehand you fucking bonehead. He is so spoiled I actually can't stand it omfg

I don't understand how Rafe gets so fucking lucky with his bad decisions not biting him in the ass (yet I suppose)

This book actually has so much second hand embarrassment going on I think I may have to put it aside for something else. 😳 Props to the author for conveying that feeling, but it's hard to read when I have a hand over my eyes.

bookishkai Ditto. I had a lot of issues with this book, despite its interesting premise. His first book was really really amazing, though. 8y
CatLadyBibliophile @bookishkris I'm only a few chapters in so I'm hoping I'll get through my discomfort on the embarrassment scale, but I'm not fully sold on the book yet. We'll see how it goes! Thanks for the note, I'll have to look into his first book because I do like his voice style. 8y

I unwrapped my date! (Still sounds funny and #LitsyAfterDark esque.) I chose this "date" because I like John Green and David Levithan and don't read enough YA. I haven't even heard of this book, but am excited to add it to my #tbr list. Thanks, @bookculture !

Bibliogeekery Ooo, I always like hearing about new #queerbooks! Sounds cute. 8y
katedensen @Bibliogeekery I haven't read enough contemporary ones so I'm excited for this! 8y
Karkar Oh I read about this one the other day. It sounded good. Will watch for your review 8y

Complicated feelings about this one. Some nice writing and memorable characters, but there's a journal-writing device I found tedious, and the ending -- though fair -- wasn't my particular cup of tea. 3/5

Openly Straight by Bill Konigsberg is about a normal teenager name Seamus. When he transferred to Natick, an all-boy boarding school in New England and he decided to keep his sexuality a secret because he doesn't want to be labelled as the gay kid. When he met Ben, everything changed.

CynCruz23 Great quick read that still managed to surprise the hell out of me 😁 enjoyed it very much 9y
