This is a scandalous breech of aeronautical law as I‘ve ever encountered. I like this line because it is so descriptive and has a lot of weird words that I‘ve never heard of.

Escape to a time when airplanes have not been invented and airships rule the skies. A cabin boy and a passenger discover a species of flying creatures and the perils that happen while trying to prove they really do exist. I enjoyed this story much more than I expected and would definitely recommend!

Matt Cruse was born in the air. To him, the sky is home. He‘s aways felt safe aboard the airship, until now. In an alternate world where airplanes never existed, Matt goes on an adventure like none before. A hint of romance, a handful of adventure, and nothing but excitement about what‘s going to happen next. If you like books with adventure and pirates, then this is the book for you. ( continued in the comments ;)

Lauren Cahill I loved how well Kenneth expressed the tone of endless danger and adventure as we follow Matt on his journey to save his ship, and his girl. 5y
MissYaremcio Well done Lauren! Remember, tone is less about the theme of the book and more about what the author is trying to teach us/how they feel while writing it. 5y
MrsBabki Love your sentence variety in this! Wowzers! 5y

This book was just so sweet and charming. It was a delight to read and I loved the action and adventure in it. The female protagonist could be a bit irritating at times, but was still a fun character. I‘m definitely going to read the other two in this series.

Great action audiobook with pirates, airships and romantic attractions. Think Kate Winslet as the heroine, as it kind of parallels Titanic-like moments.

This was my 2nd ya #steampunk for #booked2018. An airship cabin boy strives to rise above his circumstances to hopefully one day become an airship captain. When a girl boards the airship in the hopes of spotting a fantastical creature first seen by her grandfather - the two join together for an adventure featuring pirates and a shipwreck. I enjoyed this one and think I‘ll read it with my son when he‘s a bit older (I‘d say for 8 and up).

This was my streampunk book for #Booked2018 and I probably wouldn‘t have read it if not for the prompt, but I am really glad I did.

This was a fun, adventure-filled YA romp, and the audio is excellent... a full cast recording with music between chapters. It was like listening to a movie.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Mdargusch My pick for this prompt too and it definitely made Steampunk doable for me. 6y
Cinfhen Wow 😮 4 stars!!!! I still have this prompt to go.... 6y
sprainedbrain @Cinfhen surprised me, too! 😂 6y

Scene from my #audiowalk at lunch earlier today... this is right before I had to move off the trail for a city truck driving down it for some unknown maintenance. I promptly stepped into a little hole and twisted my ankle. I had to walk/limp another mile after that before I gave up and called for backup from my bff. Ouch. 😰

Up until that 🤬 truck, it was an excellent walk with a fun book!

cobwebmoth Oh no! Hope your ankle heals quickly! 6y

This was my #firsttime reading Steampunk and I‘m not sure I would read anymore. I‘m not a fantasy lover and dirigibles with air pirates and unknown flying creatures attacking while shipwrecked on a secret island had me shaking my head. It was very entertaining but I could only think #areyoukiddingme 🤦🏼‍♀️
#aprella #hopintospring #booked2018

emilyhaldi Lol, it had me shaking my head too 😆 7y
Reviewsbylola I‘m proud of you!! (edited) 7y
Librariana I wonder if you might've had a *slightly* different experience if your introduction had been "Leviathan" by Scott Westerfeld since that is steampunk weaved into historical fiction ? Or possibly "Etiquette & Espionage" by Gail Carriger since it's a little more... Victorian finishing school for young ladies with more adventurous aspirations ? Still, two enthusiastic thumbs up for giving it a try even if it wasn't your cup of tea! 7y

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I don‘t think it would be for me either 🤷🏼‍♀️ 7y
CouronneDhiver I don‘t care for steampunk either... or fantasy, for that matter. Lots of other books on the shelf! 7y
vkois88 I'm not huge on either of them... I am attempting to listen to Leviathan on audio with Allan Cumming narrating. It's a struggle since I don't typically like that kind of stuff 7y
Mdargusch I tried Etiquette and Espionage first @Librariana and I couldn‘t get past page 75. This one was enjoyable but it‘s just not a genre I would choose. 7y
Librariana @Mdargusch - I hear ya! I tried E & E and couldn't get into it either 😁 but I did enjoy the Leviathan trilogy. Life is short. Gotta use time wisely reading what you truly enjoy @CouronneDhiver @vkois88 7y
vkois88 @Librariana exactly. Too many books to waste time 🤗 7y
Mdargusch I figured I tried it, now time to tackle my mount TBR. 🙀 @vkois88 @Librariana 7y
Cinfhen Hahaha😜steampunk is sooooo NOT for me...I may need to skip this prompt altogether 7y

This was the perfect rainy day to finish my first steampunk novel. Phew! Airborn is a mashup of Flight of Dreams, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Jurassic Park! I would never have known about this genre or read if not for #booked2018. #blameitonlitsy #myfirstandlaststeampunk

Sorry I read this early but I was anxious to cross steampunk off the list. ✔️

Cinfhen Woohoo 🙌🏻 🎉 I‘m adding it too!!! Job well done 😊 7y

Congratulations @callielafleur on your milestone! It‘s my granddaughters nap time and as I sit next to her, I am pondering all these books next to my bed that are started and then put aside. I wonder if I will ever pick them up again? The two in front are current reads and the rest are in the unfinished book graveyard. #litsyisthebestus

callielafleur I finished a few recently that I had started and put down ages ago, and really enjoyed them. Sometimes it's just not the right time for a certain book! ❤️❤️ 7y
Mdargusch I guess I should try that @callielafleur otherwise they‘re going in my little Free library this summer. 😁 7y

Today‘s Library haul. I was in a hurry so I would‘ve picked up more steampunk but this was all I could manage. The librarians were super helpful So one librarian that feels the way I do about SP (🙄)recommended Airborn. The other was recommended by @julesG - The Watchmaker... I‘m aiming for Soulless graphic novel if these don‘t work. The third book is something I actually want to read. 😁thanks for all suggestions everyone!
Good luck @Cinfhen

BarbaraTheBibliophage Looks like a good haul! 👏🏻👏🏻 7y

TommieMarie74 Girl on the Velvet Swing sounds awesome. The cover and title were intriguing so I looked it up on Amazon. 😍 7y
8leagueboot Airborne was one of my absolute favorite books growing up!! 7y
theresidentromantic Oh! And I remembered another, Jim Butcher's new series, the Cinder Spires if anyone still needs a steampunk book! I haven't read it yet, but my fiance liked it. He's a huge Butcher fan though, so he might be a little biased! 7y
Soubhiville I‘m with you on SP too. I always want to like it, but so far haven‘t found one I actually enjoyed. 7y
BarbaraBB Oh wow, two more options. Looking forward to your thoughts on them! 7y
Mdargusch I‘ve read the first chapter in both SP books so far @Soubhiville and @BarbaraBB and so far they are much more tolerable. I still need to read more to decide. 7y
Mdargusch I‘ve read 70 pages of The Girl on the Velvet Swing and it‘s good! 👍🏼 a lot of the men in this book did the Worlds Fair and were part of The Devil In The White City. @rubyslippersreads @vkois88 @TommieMarie74 7y
Mdargusch The first chapter was good! @8leagueboot 7y
rubyslippersreads @Mdargusch I'm interested because of the musical 7y
Reviewsbylola Who‘s the girl on the cover of Velvet Swing? I‘ve seen that picture before. 7y
emilyhaldi At this rate I‘m going to let you narrow down to the best SP book and then pick whatever that is 😉👍🏻👏🏻 7y
Mdargusch I will do the dirty work @emilyhaldi 7y
Mdargusch Evelyn Nesbit @Reviewsbylola - she was Stanford Whites Little nubile honey. Remember him from Devil in the White City? 7y
EmilyReadsEverything If you like steampunk have you read God Save the Queen by Kate Locke? 7y
Mdargusch Unfortunately, I don‘t like steampunk @EmilyReadsEverything so that‘s my problem. I‘m reading it for the #booked2018 challenge so I‘m trying to find a “steampunk lite” but I will add this to my list of book possibilities. Thanks! 7y

I remember reading this book long before I ever heard of " #steampunk ". When that term finally rolled up in my consciousness I realized this book perfectly fits the category (and not on some "just put some gears on it to make it steampunk" way). A plus? This book rocks!!! Reading it is kinda like watching a video-game/movie play out in your head. ????? all the way! @RealLifeReading #SeasonsReadings2016

I enjoy fantasy and science fiction, but #steampunk never really hooked me. The few I've read I feel lukewarm about...maybe the one I had the most fun with was Airborn, which I had to read for a teen readers advisory class. It's a good adventure book that bridges middle grade and young adult fiction well, and the families I've recommended it to loved it. So there's that! #SeasonsReadings2016
