Aru Shah and the Song of Death
Aru Shah and the Song of Death: A Pandava Novel | Roshani Chokshi
37 posts | 34 read | 23 to read
Best-selling author Rick Riordan presents best-selling author Roshani Chokshi and her sequel to Aru Shah and the End of Time. Aru is only just getting the hang of this whole Pandava thing when the Otherworld goes into full panic mode. The god of love's bow and arrow have gone missing, and the thief isn't playing Cupid. Instead, they're turning people into heartless fighting-machine zombies. If that weren't bad enough, somehow Aru gets framed as the thief. If she doesn't find the arrow by the next full moon, she'll be kicked out of the Otherworld. For good. But, for better or worse, she won't be going it alone. Along with her soul-sister, Mini, Aru will team up with Brynne, an ultra-strong girl who knows more than she lets on, and Aiden, the boy who lives across the street and is also hiding plenty of secrets. Together they'll battle demons, travel through a glittering and dangerous serpent realm, and discover that their enemy isn't at all who they expected.

I love this series. I‘m looking forward to reading them with my youngest. Short, gripping chapters. Loveable characters. Lots of action, humor and tension. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I adore these characters! They are awesome group and I loved their banter. I just would have loved to have more of those! This was so action-packed that I started to wish to get less action and more discussions.

A day behind on this August challenge and several books behind on this really great #middlegrade series. This series is so creative and full of so many twists and turns. I am only about 4 hours into the second book‘s audiobook but it‘s great! #tropesinaugust

Klou Great choice!! And happy you're joining in, doesn't matter if you're a bit late to it. I once had to catch up for 10 days of challenges 😂😂 4y

I'm far from the intended audience for these books, but I've enjoyed them so far. The characters are fun, and I'm enjoying learning a bit about a #mythology that I'm unfamiliar with. #fantasy #hindu #hindumythology #pandava #identity #magic #demigod

Great to see the main character grow and learn from her mistakes, but still be goofy and awkward. I wish I had a book like this when I was in my middle school years to help me feel like I wasn't alone going through all the different transitions. The world building is richly detailed.

#MordecaiReads His biggest complaint was the the color of the crab didn‘t match the color of the crab in the book. 🤔 He‘s also pretty miffed he has to wait so long for the next book. #morebookslessbulkshit2019

1/30 I'm a few days behind in this challenge but I think I can catch up by Monday.

I gave this book 3.7 🌟🌟🌟
It wasn't as great as the first one but it was still funny and the characters were still lovable. I look forward to reading the 3rd one.

Me: setting reading goals isn't for me.
Me 2 days later: I'm going to try and read 30 books in the month of August.

What am I the way that I am 🙈🙈

Someone has stolen Cupid's bow and arrow and is using it to create the heartless - an army of zombie-like creatures. The gods think Aru is to blame and to prove herself innocent she is set onto another quest to return the stolen items. Even more action-packed than the last, there are new allies to befriend and enemies to thwart. Lots of actual LOL moments in here to keep the mood light even through the intensity of it all. Delightful read!

If you like your Indian mythology with generous dollops of adventure, friendship, humor, and Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings references, then start reading the Aru Shah series, like, yesterday! What I love about this second book is that both the heroes and the villains have baggage, and you can‘t paint anyone as purely good or evil. The characters are real and relatable, while the magic is delightfully over the top. So much fun! And wisdom too.

alysonimagines P.S. This was my fantasy pick for June‘s #LitsyATXReadersSociety. 🦇📚 5y

#24in48 Hour 30 Challenge: Middle grade/YA books. Two of my favourite genres (been leaning towards MG this year) for the adventures, the kindness and the realness of the characters. Love love love the Aru Shah-books and I'm so happy it's a quartet.

Still trying to figure out how to stay active for #bookfitnesschallenge with the limitations surgery threw at me, but everything's getting easier real fast, so it's progress. I'm doing a lot of random dancing for now 😂 Roamed the city for 5 hours today while my mum had surgery (we're a sorry lot tonight 😂) and got 10 km in, so a cat and a good book is order. Hope you're all having a great Thursday ❤️❤️

mabell Glad you‘re healing well! And that‘s a great day of walking! I hope your mom recovers quickly too! 5y

I liked this second book in Roshani Chokshi's middle grade Pandava series even better than the first. Aru Shah and her friend, Mini, are on another quest, this time to prove their innocence and accompanied by new friends. There are great messages throughout the book about inclusivity, empathy, and friendship, in addition to some wonderful Indian mythology. I'm looking forward to more of Aru's adventures - bonus: gorgeous covers! 😍

It‘s going to be a long wait for the 3rd book in this series to come out! Perfect for fans of Percy Jackson and HP, I love how this tale of friendship is woven in so well with mythology.

And a middle grade book that adds a strong character that is bi/pan AND establishes they/them as a pronoun choice gets a big 🙌🏽🙌🏽 from me.

Aru Shah is firmly cemented as my favorite new middle grade series.

The fresh biscotti from Pgh is yummy too. 😃

We‘ve arrived at our resort where we‘re spending a brief 24 hours! (Although I‘m tempted to add on a day, we‘re tucked in the WV mountains at a beautiful spot!)

Nothing but reading and swimming this afternoon (As soon as we eat some lunch)! #motherdaughtergetaway

TrishB Sounds lovely 💕 5y
alisiakae @TrishB It is! It‘s an interesting resort. During the Cold War, it used to be an evacuation point for government officials, so tomorrow we‘re going to do a tour of the bunker. It‘s in the middle of nowhere, but a welcome respite! 5y

Blaire @4thhouseontheleft enjoy! I love when we get a chance to head down there! So relaxing and the tour is interesting. Are you going to spend any time in Lewisburg? It‘s an adorable town. Stardust cafe is a great lunch spot. Also the bar at the greenbrier makes really good gimlets. 🥂 (edited) 5y
alisiakae @Blaire Thanks for the rec‘s! We probably won‘t venture into Lewisburg this trip, but I will order the Gimlet! (edited) 5y

Spending our last day in Pittsburgh enjoying all the benefits of staying in a walkable neighborhood. Currently at the Commonplace Coffeehouse 2 blocks away from our AirBnb, and then after packing we‘re headed to the park and playground again!

Good thing Maya has ebooks downloaded, or we‘d be fighting over who gets to read this book this morning. 😂

Schlinkles I‘m headed to Pittsburgh tomorrow, it‘s one of my favorite cities. Enjoy! 6y

alisiakae @Jee_HookedOnBookz They are, except how can a mom refuse handing over a book to her kid? Which means I never get to read it. 😂 6y
Amiable Which AirBNB did you stay at? Would you recommend it? I‘m planning a trip to Pittsburgh this fall and I want to stay in an area that‘s walkable. 6y
alisiakae @Amiable I would definitely recommend the neighborhood (Point Breeze), but not the AirBnb. There were some issues, the main one being there is a door that leads into the adjacent apartment, and during the summer the humidity makes the door stick and it doesn‘t lock. We‘re super flexible, & it‘s a safe neighborhood, but that lack of security was disconcerting. It also smelled strongly like cat pee the whole week. 5y
alisiakae @amiable If you need any rec‘s on things to do, let me know! I went to college at Pitt, and we also crammed a lot of activities into our one week stay. 5y
Amiable @4thhouseontheleft Ooh, thanks for the tip! When I look for a place to stay I‘ll run the names past you to make sure I‘m not picking the one that smells like cat pee. 😬 And yes, I‘d love to talk to you about places to go in Pittsburgh! My husband and I are going to visit to scope it out for a potential retirement location. My email addy is AmyBF45 at gmail —can you email me? 5y

Got out of work early, but I can‘t go home because they are doing work on trees at the house and they‘ve blocked the street. So, I‘m spending the afternoon reading this new release and having a yummy treat. 🥳
