panThis book was so weird. On paper it had everything I should have loved - strong women, unstable criminal, diverse cast, a strong magic society.... but instead I had to force myself to get through it. Maybe it was because I listened to it rather than read it? I don't even know.
Would give it 3.5 stars if I could! The first several chapters were mostly slow with some exciting action sprinkled here and there, enough to get me to keep reading. When I finally got to the heavy action, BOY. Was I hooked! pickAfter a slow first few chapters the book takes off with action and magic and lots of morally gray characters. I really enjoyed it.

All these disparate characters who are usually poles apart and from opposing teams must work together to save their kingdom from a new magic is unleashed in their city.
The trouble is none of them trust the other.
Can they all put their differences aside long enough to save their home?
