Say Nothing: #nonfiction only got to p. 206
Maigret Chritmas : #holidaycheer finished my first introduction to this series- such fun! His character is great.
The Disappearance of Alistair Ainsworth: #mystery of the week. Don‘t know why I felt compelled to finish- may because I enjoyed other books by the same author. Would not recommend- I found it boring.
#BookAllusion #CaskoftheAmontillado #EdgarAllanPoe #Sherry #Enticement
Such a chilling, s-l-o-w-l-y- build up of suspense in this short story (Cask of Amontillado).
#Fridaydinner #booksandfood #booksandbooze #grittycomestodinner
Slow going with this book. Not enjoying it -
But rather than bailing, wanting to see the ending.
#BookReport
Say Nothing: on p. 176
The Ruin: audio, finished
The Disappearance of Alistair Ainsworth: p. 71, library Book so reading this rather than the Cara Black mystery.
#fridaymorning #coffeesndbooks
Slept in this post Thanksgiving morning. Scone & coffee from a Barbara Pym mug. She was one of my mother‘s favorite authors.
Needed a small break from Say Nothing, so starting this library book.
Happy Friday everyone!
Disclaimer: This is third in series but MY introduction to Joanna (Sherlock Holmes‘ daughter). So, to be fair, I might have enjoyed it more with previous books under my belt. While I did expect her character to be logical and a bit stilted, I found the writing and the characters overall to be dry and not as engaging and in-depth as I had hoped. The plot, involving German spies, a British traitor and coded messages was fine, but I feel like ⬇️
Up next is this third installment of a mystery series I haven‘t read yet...hopefully I won‘t be totally lost! 🤦🏻♀️

Joanna Blalock, the daughter of Sherlock Holmes and heir to his unique talent of deduction, faces an unsolvable mystery with spies and a threat to the crown in the third book to the critically acclaimed series.
Release date 6/11/19
I find that this series has gotten better each book; the books may be a bit laborious for modern day readers, but I love that it is very similar to Doyle‘s original Sherlock stories.
While I had a feeling I knew who would be the villain, I enjoyed the wondering of whether or not I was correct and all the info was being parcelled out in small doses.
