In this striking new novel by the critically acclaimed author of Allegedly and Mondays Not Coming, Tiffany D. Jackson tells the story of three Brooklyn teens who plot to turn their murdered friend into a major rap star by pretending he's still alive. Brooklyn, 1998. Biggie Smalls was right: Things done changed. But that doesnt mean that Quadir and Jarrell are cool letting their best friend Stephs music lie forgotten under his bed after hes murderednot when his rhymes could turn any Bed Stuy corner into a party. With the help of Stephs younger sister Jasmine, they come up with a plan to promote Stephs music under a new rap name: the Architect. Soon, everyone wants a piece of him. When his demo catches the attention of a hotheaded music label rep, the trio must prove Stephs talent from beyond the grave. As the pressure of keeping their secret grows, Quadir, Jarrell, and Jasmine are forced to confront the truth about what happened to Steph. Only, each has something to hide. And with everything riding on Stephs fame, they need to decide what they stand for or lose all that theyve worked so hard to hold on toincluding each other.

About life in Bed-Stuy, hip hop/rap culture, and the love of a sister and his two best friends for a uniquely talented rapper killed as a teen before he had a chance to share his gift with the world. His friends are determined to make him famous posthumously and his sister wants to discover his killer and bring them to justice. The author really brought this era in Brooklyn to life! 4* read for me.

This book is told from 3 POVs. Jasmine, Quadir, and Jarrell are all dealing with the loss of their friend and brother Steph. When they find tapes of his music under is bed they are determined to get it music published. They are also trying to figure out who murdered. This book was set in the 90‘s. I have now read all three of Jackson‘s books and they have all been amazing. Looking forward to reading her new book next month.

Overall I really enjoyed this book. The ending felt a bit anticlimactic, but the rest of the book kept me hanging onto every word. It was really enlightening about what people‘s lives were like back in the 90‘s, but, unfortunately, it still felt relevant. This is a great book for everyone who enjoyed The Hate U Give.

I've read 3 of Tiffany D. Jackson's books. Monday's Not Coming is my favorite by her. It kept my attention from beginning to end. This book is good too. The storyline is good and I like how she ties un music that I grew up on in it.

I‘m not super sure what this book is about but I have been in a reading slump for a few months and her last two books had me hooked. Excited for her to do it again.

If you like hip hop, this realistic fiction based on historical facts is for you. Set in 1998 in Brooklyn, 2 friends of Steph & his sister set out to share his music with the world even after he's murdered. They contrive a plan to promote his music under the rap name Architect. As with most lies, it gets complicated & heats up quickly. Meanwhile, the 3 teens all have their own issues as they struggle with the loss of their friend & brother.

I have to be honest I was not fully emotionally ready to read this book. Having read Jackson‘s other novels I was reading this fully expecting to be emotionally b**ch-slapped at some point, so it was hard to read for the enjoyment of reading. Jackson has a definite trademark of making you question the world of the characters, but this is a departure from her typical story. Overall I liked it.

This book is centered around a group of teenage friends in the late nineties. They love hip hop, shooting hoops, and hanging out on their block. One of them is killed and the other two are determined to get him a record deal no matter what. This is a story of loss, friendship, and the lengths you will go to for the people you love-no matter what.

Tex2Flo The dead kid is to get a record deal? What an objective and adventure! Intrigued about how they pull it off--or even try! 6y
