The eleventh book in this series shows no sign of it slowing down. Although I wouldn't say it's gripping in that I couldn't put it down, it did keep my attention throughout, but I found the ending was over a little too quickly & rather anticlimactic after all the build-up. It's another good read for fans of this series but I'd like to see the author perhaps shake things up a bit with future books. 4🌟

I‘m not doing a lot of challenges in 2022, but thought this might be a pretty good one, so I‘m joining @Clwojick ‘s #shelfofshame. Seems my shelf has a lot of chunksters on it. 😳

Clwojick You‘ve got this! 💪🏻 3y

This one was a little messy for Linda! Redundant parts, and repeated phrases here and there. Seemed to me like she was probably asked by the editor for more pages after it was finished. Plot was left open at the end, also, which is not her style. 7/10...still a two-day read that held my interest 👍

I love the Kate Burkholder books. This story focuses on a long ago secret. Kate is on a timeline to solve the crimes committed. Highly recommend.

I‘m giving this a pick but I had mixed feelings on this one. It‘s the first I‘ve read in this series but I didn‘t feel I was missing out on anything. The mystery was interesting but not hard to figure out. I guess my biggest complaint is they seemed to dumb it down way too much and spell out every little thing the detective was doing instead of letting us use our brains. Still, I‘m interested in reading more of the series. 3.5⭐️

In the eleventh book of this series, an Amish grandmother is brutally murdered and her seven year old granddaughter is abducted. Kate races against the clock to find the girl and uncovers a years old conspiracy to protect the child. This is one of my favorite series. I love police chief, Kate, and the recurring characters.#caughtup

Read in August.

Crazeedi Are they all to do with amish? 5y
Bookzombie @Crazeedi Yes. Kate, the main character is formerly Amish, and the town, Painter‘s Mill, has a large Amish community. 5y
Crazeedi @Bookzombie thanks for info! 😊 5y
Bookzombie @Crazeedi Welcome! Also, just wanted to say these aren‘t cozies. Sometimes the murders are pretty graphic. 🙂 5y
Crazeedi @Bookzombie going to check them out!! 5y

I devoured this entire series earlier this year, so I was pretty excited to read the newest release. As someone who lives in Ohio near an Amish community, I appreciate the way Castillo doesn't demonize or deify the Amish, but presents them as regular humans. This mystery wasn't as strong as some of the others, but was still thoroughly engaging. Kate is such a likable lead. I hope there are more in this series to come!!

I always enjoy reading books in Linda Castillo‘s Kate Burkholder series, and this newest one did not disappoint. It follows a gruesome murder of an Amish grandmother and the kidnapping of her granddaughter. As usual, secrets are uncovered and the reader gets a glimpse into the Amish community. Honestly, I liked that this book focused on the crime and pulled back from Kate and Tomasetti‘s relationship.

I‘ve been following this series for nearly a decade- and this latest installment is another great addition to it! Thanks, #NetGalley for letting me read this ahead of time!
The book opens up with the #shocking and violent murder of a grandmother- and the kidnapping of her seven-year-old granddaughter. With that hook, it‘s hard to put this down! #30JuneBooks

Thanks to St. Martin‘s Press and NetGalley.
An Amish grandmother is murdered and her 7yo granddaughter is abducted. Kate Burkholder races against time to find the missing girl while a lot of secrets swirl. Characters are very realistic. Lots of plot twists kept me captivated to the end. Shows dark side of Amish life and morals. I have read the whole series and found this equally gripping. Recommended if you like suspenseful police procedurals.

mrsmarch Is it gruesome and gory? 6y
hermyknee What is the first in the series? 6y

EadieB @mrsmarch There are some murder descriptions but I would not consider them overly gory. 6y
