pickWillow and Olive go to camp together. Both expecting to have fun with each other. What happens is an evolving friendship where each want different things. This is a great exploration of friendships change, but they don‘t have to end. You don‘t have to do everything together all the time. I feel for Willow; I would attach to the one person I knew, which kept me from exploring. I‘m glad with how they figured it.

Outgoing Olive quickly dives into all the activities and makes new friends, while homesick Willow resents being left out. Bad feelings brew on both sides until an eruption threatens their friendship. Good advice from the counselor (W‘s happiness isn‘t O‘s responsibility, making herself miserable to help a friend is just trading one problem for another). Good story.

This causes conflict in their friendship. They find solutions on how to still be each others friend, while also getting the most out of summer camp and enjoying other activities.
There is a picture of Olive hugging her mom and they are happy. Next to them, are Willow and her mom hugging and crying. You can see the insecurity and understand Willow a bit more.

This book would be good for 4th or 5th grade. it shows how to be a good friend and how to overcome personal situations.

It was a beautiful sound. They did art and science and cooked hotdogs on tree sticks! The map helped me know where everything was and I like that they made new friends and stayed friends too. This book gets 5☆s for being the best story I ever read!" -age 7
