Rebel Angels
Rebel Angels | Libba Bray
In this thrilling sequel, Gemma continues to pursue her destiny to bind the magic of the Realms and restore it to the Order. Gemma and her friends from Spence use magical power to transport themselves on visits from their corseted world of Victorian London (at the height of the Christmas season), to the visionary country of the Realms, with its strange beauty and menace. There they search for the lost Temple, the key to Gemma's mission, and comfort Pippa, their friend who has been left behind in the Realms. After these visits they bring back magical power for a short time to use in their own world. Meanwhile, Gemma is torn between her attraction to the exotic Kartik, the messenger from the opposing forces of the Rakshana, and the handsome but clueless Simon, a young man of good family who is courting her. This is the second book in Libba Bray's engrossing trilogy, set in a time of strict morality and barely repressed sensuality, about a girl who saw another way.

It‘s rare when I come to a boom in a series that I‘m reading that actually falls during Christmas. I love this series. I read the first two when I was in high school, but never made it to the third book. I‘ve now reread book one and two and am anxiously awaiting the new year to finally read book three. A truly magical series! #winterreadathon

So with a lot of series you feel like the second book is slow or just a fill in and I didn‘t feel that way with this. I loved it.

I ended up buying the second and third book of this series, because my library is closed and I had to go on reading. 😁

PaperbackPrincess19 I‘m currently reading Libba Bray‘s Diviner‘s series and it‘s really great so far 5y
Cheshirecat913 I loved this series. I may have to do a reread it has been years. Libba Bray is great and I really like her quirk. 5y

The Gemma Doyle trilogy continues with even more intrigue, magic and mystery. Gemma is navigating her abilities outside of school and with even more challenges than before. In addition to her magic, she now has to grapple with family problems and, as most teenagers do, love problems. On top of all of that, the question of who to trust becomes the center of it all. The second one leaves you eager for the final installment

Honestly this second installment was even better for me than the first. I thought I had it all figured out and did not suspect the big reveal would be happening AT ALL! If I read this as a physical book and not on Audiobook I would have thrown it across the room. In a good way. The book discusses important issues (dealing with death, sexual assault, addiction, self-harm) which I think is a great addition to this tale, especially as a YA book.

Been wanting to sit down and read all day instead of work and *poof* the power goes out! Oh darn, I guess I have no choice now 😜 I probably should do reviews for the three books I‘ve finished since my last review, but I want to get in as much reading as I can before the #Owlsreadathon2019 ends

HotTeaGoodBooks Is that author‘s name a play on the word library? 6y
RvnclawWhovian @Denita so I did some googling and it sorta is! Her real first name is Martha. But apparently people called her by her middle name, Elizabeth, which turned into Libba. From her bio on her webpage, “For those who keep asking, yes, Libba Bray is my real name, and yes, I realize that it sounds a lot like “Library,” which I think is pretty cool.” 6y
HotTeaGoodBooks That is so cool! Even more so with her being an author. Very nice. 6y

I wasn't much fan of the first book, but after Litsy encouraged me to keep reading, I can say that I did enjoy the second book much more than the first. The story was more engaging and though I was able to guess the major plot point, I found myself drawn into Gemma's world more than before. I am looking forward to reading the final book in the Doyle trilogy.

I seriously love this series. It‘s so good. The magic is so entertaining and easy to get lost in. What I love the most, is the characters are all flawed and it makes this fantasy series seem so much more real.

My #tbr pile is getting ridiculous and this doesn't include The Love Interest which is in the mail and Lord of Shadows which is out on Tuesday!!!!! I thought I would have a calmer reading month in May but apparently not 🙈

MarriedtoMrT I'm ashamed to say I never got around to reading A Great and Terrible Beauty. I read the other two and remember I was really antsy for the release of the final book then nothing. I hope you get to it! 📚 8y
Brittbritt @MarriedtoMrT Thanks yeah it's actually a reread for me cause I read the series like 10 years ago and I loved it but I don't remember ANYTHING that happened. Hope I get to the last one but it's over 800 pages so a bit intimidating 😆 8y
MarriedtoMrT @Brittbrittxo I think that's probably the real reason I never finished it. Big books intimidate me. 8y

I am going to attempt to finish some series this year...first up, the Gemma Doyle Trilogy, I read A Great and Terrible Beauty back in 2014. What series do you need to finish or how many do you have going? I am at over 50 at the moment - 50 series that I need to catch up on or finish. This is pure craziness!
