London police detective Maeve Kerrigan has spent plenty of time at Murchison House. One of the many cement high-rise towers comprising the Maudling Estate housing project, Murchison House is home to a motley mix of society. From domestic abuse victims and elderly widows with nowhere else to turn to its flourishing criminal elements, Maeve is familiar with many of its occupants by name or reputation. But when a fire breaks out at Murchison House that consumes the top floors and leaves three dead, Maeve and her colleagues are startled to learn the identity of one of the victims. Geoff Armstrong was a wealthy, notoriously right-wing London politicianthe last person theyd expect to find in a place like the Maudling Estate. And things get even murkier when evidence surfaces indicating Armstrong was murdered before the fire broke out. Was his death connected to the fire? To the other deaths at Murchison House? And what was he doing there in the first place? What Maeve begins to uncover will lead her on a terrifying journey through all levels of society, putting her very life in danger. Jane Caseys next riveting mystery featuring beloved detective Maeve Kerrigan will keep readers turning the pages from the opening scene to the stunning conclusion.

Another great read in the Maeve Kerrigan Series, Jane Casey really writes some excellent plot lines & writes great character development lines. Who thought a whole book talking about what happened before & during a fire would be so captivating. This was difficult to put down, & even when the main story was resolved, there was some great excitement in the issue that was impacting on Maeve‘s personal life. Given the ending looking forward to book 7!

Finally, finally got to start After the Fire, book 6 in the Maeve Kerrigan Series.

@EadieB and @Tove_Reads Reading book 6 at the moment and hope to get to book 7, Let The Dead Speak, next week.

Apologies for being absent from Litsy a lot of the last week or 2 - life has consumed me (personally and professionally) over that time but hoping to bounce back

Tove_Reads Another good one! 5y
Andrew65 Enjoying it so far. @Tove_Reads (edited) 5y

In an effort to get my #seriesreads under control a little, and because I‘ve been rather immobile over the past 2 weeks, I have been binging Jane Casey‘s Maeve Kerrigan series. Love my badass British (or in Maeve‘s case, Irish) detective ladies. 👍🏼

TrishB She‘s awesome 👍🏻 up to date on these. 5y
cathipink I'll have to check these series out. I have a couple first books on my tbr, but none in progress. 5y
MicheleinPhilly @TrishB I have 2 more to look forward to and then I can add another up-to-date series to my EXTREMELY short list. Of course for every one of these I finish, I buy 3 more “first in series.” 🤦🏻‍♀️ 5y
MicheleinPhilly @cathipink This is a good one. First entry is 5y
cathipink Thank you!! 5y

MP Armstrong was murdered before the fire broke out. Was his death connected to the fire? To the other deaths at Murchison House? And what was he doing there in the first place? Maeve is a character that comes to life and you feel you know her personally. I missed Rob in this book but I loved Derwent and the interaction between him and Maeve. I look forward to Casey‘s future books. If you like police procedurals, you will enjoy this series.

Andrew65 I‘m still struggling to get hold of this. Just been returned to my local library but not on shelf and they couldn‘t find it. 😡😡😡 5y
EadieB @Andrew65 Oh no! That's crazy! 5y

Mehso-so

Kerrigan & Derwent investigate deaths following a suspicious fire in a tower block. Among the dead, right wing MP Geoff Armstrong - was he the target or collateral?

Plot was fairly interesting, but the main characters are not showing much sign of development. Derwent veers between caring friend & caricature sexist & his relationship with Maeve is strange. Also his tendency to hone in on a woman involved in his cases seems predatory to me. 3⭐️

Best of the series so far 😀 One of the best finds I've had buying number 7 in the series and having to get 1-6 to read first. This was number 6 and I loved it.
A great detective series - with a great female MC, great plot lines and personal story!

Andrew65 Must try these out. 7y
TrishB @Andrew65 I think you'll really like them! 7y

Casey wrote another page turner. The story actually had 2 plotlines working alongside each other and although the ending tied it all up pretty quickly, the journey there was a good one.
