I didn‘t know what the tagged book is (reviews look iffy), but excited for the others!

I really enjoyed this author‘s first book, The French Girl, but I found this one slow and frustrating, with wonky character development. Ailsa inherits a manor house in Scotland after her mother dies, but from the minute she arrives the house makes her uncomfortable. The action picks up the last 75 pages or so, but I still had to read 300 pages to get there.

This wasn't for me. I don't know what is was about this but I didn't care for it.

I was SURE a certain person was behind the shenanigans in the house, but I was WRONG!

One book down for #OutstandingOctober and another returned to the library unread. Trying to decide which to read next!

Today was a holiday, and I spent it doing something completely different. My friend and I went to the “clay café” and painted plates. They‘ll be fired and glazed, and I‘ll get the finished product in a few weeks.

Tomorrow it‘s back to work.

Having taken a quick trip to Hawaii, I‘m back in the Scottish Highlands. I was in Scotland for a few days during a trip last year, and I‘d go back in a heartbeat. Preferably not to a creepy old house which I own in tandem with my father who‘s been missing for 27 years.

Bit of a different kind of mystery. Elsa goes to Scotland to see the home she has Inger from her mom. There are strange things that happen in the Manse.

The Missing Years ebook is on sale for $1.99! I loved this book and gave it 5 stars. It‘s another perfect fall read with just enough creep factor to get you in the mood for Halloween. It‘s set on a creepy manse in a rural town in Scotland. It‘s even got a guy named Jamie in it. I recommend you snap up this ebook deal and read it this weekend with a pumpkin spice latte. :)

Listening to audiobook about creepy (possibly haunted) manse, while trying to put my books up in new house. It is hard because I want to stop and read all the books 😆

This book has hooked me early...

Ailsa Calder‘s life takes an unexpected turn when her mother passes away. She discovers that she has inherited a house in Scotland. It‘s a house she lived in as a very young girl, but she and her mother left when her father went missing. Ailsa had no idea that her mother still owned the house, and she‘s even more surprised to find that her father‘s name is still on the deed as well. And that‘s just the start of the twists this book offers!!

Just starting chapter six of this one and I am so mad I didn‘t start it yesterday. I can‘t stay up late reading on a Sunday night. Mondays are hard enough as it is. 😰

When Ailsa inherits a manse in rural Scotland, she discovers that until her estranged father can be either found or pronounced presumed dead, she only owns half the estate. With no other option, Ailsa moves into the manse with hopes of a quick turnover so she can get back to London and her job in news broadcasting.
However, Ailsa discovers that small towns don't forget the past as quickly as she may have hoped.

I absolutely love the mood and mystery of this book, it is full of Gothic tension and surreal beauty. The characters are phenomenal and the setting is deeply effective. The constant question of whether or not there is something supernatural happening kept me on my toes, looking for clues and hidden details. The creepy elements were expertly written.

A gripping and at times creepy story. I loved the atmosphere it created. The story was interesting and built slowly to a clever climax that surprised me. The ending was really good and finished the story well. The writing was descriptive and flowed well. Ailsa is a good lead character, shes likeable and kept me reading. I also really liked Callum, he was a cute little addition to the story that showed a more sensitive side to Ailsa

If you are a fan of old houses, family secrets, sibling rivalry, family sagas, mysteries, and some unresolved issues, THE MISSING YEARS is a book you will want to read.

You just need to move slowly along with the characters and the storyline. 4/5
