This is the epitome of courage. To run away and find a courthouse to divorce her cruel, abusive husband. To fight against ages-old traditional honor so she can be a child again. As I was reading, my own little 9 year old was playing with her dog and I can only thank God. I try not to judge, the father was steeped in poverty, it's traditions. Because of this one little girl, traditions can now be overturned.

Poor people are so hungry they've got stones where their hearts should be, and no time to feel pity for the fates of others.

Read this in an evening, both because it is short, but also because I just had to know how things would go for Nujood (even though the title sort of lets us know). It was provoking and heartbreaking, and made even worse knowing that since the publication of this book the number of child marriages have only increased in Yemen (according to a the Guardian article from 2018) š’”

Told for a child's point of view, you lose some depth and some stores are repeated while others remain half told. That aside, Nujood's courage is amazing! I hope this book and her story continue to chip away at this deeply rooted cultural practice and improve life for children everywhere. I recommend reading this book. She is a trail blazer. I hope she is safe today.

These books provoked #sympathy and anger in equal measures. And are unforgettable. There are women making unbearable decisions behind all- I think of the mothers... and grandmothers. FYI one of my all time favorite songs is I Am Woman - Helen Reddy. #nofemmeber

I read this book when I was in sixth grade. At the time, I had no clue that life was like that for little girls in other countries and I counted my blessings. This book made me thankful that I was born and raised in the United States by great people who loved and protected me.

Had a coworker drop this on my desk after I told her I went through a depressing memoir phase a few years ago. This one is hard but does have a hopeful overall tone. It's the story of a Yemeni child bride and her courage in fighting to get out of her situation. I googled her after reading and was sad to see much of the money from the book had been squandered by her father and she is again fighting for her education. #giveawaynew @Liberty

Eye-opening and powerful as Nujood's story puts a name and a face on the horrific, harsh realities that face many young girls in our world. Incredible strength and determination to change her situation, fight back, and reclaim her life.

Read this as part of a postal book club. Eye opening... you know things like this exist but can't even imagine it until it's put into words for you. And slowly but surely getting through my #litsyatoz this one got me "a" only 6 more to go!

What a powerful story!! The incredible strength, determination and bravery this young lady showed at only 10 years old. It was heart wrenching to read all the terrible things she had to endure. I am in total awe of her!
