Started this Jane Austen adaptation for one of the #JaneAustenJuly challenges! A chapter in and it‘s some neat world building with all manor of dragon creatures - big and small!

Not what I was expecting to post for #prejudice, but there you go! 😂

This is a somewhat hesitant pick for me. Overall, I enjoyed this spin on P&P! The one big issue I have with it is that the author took many iconic scenes from the original & included them with the exact same wording in her story. I think it was meant to honor Austen, but it felt forced. The story really shines when the author is using her own words! I'm curious about the rest of the series, so I'll keep reading.

I have absolutely no idea what to expect, but here we go!

An interesting world where dragons & humans have a treaty. Each major dragon has a keeper and a keep like Mr. Bennet and Longbourne. The plot is very slow and lacking in character development and some BIG plot holes which are never addressed. It was a unique take on P&P but I will not be reading the rest of the books. 2/5 stars. Lizzy is beloved by dragons and helps Mr. Darcy find his, while dealing with a cruel father & rude dragon of her own.

Austen's novel is well-served by Maria Grace's imaginings of how society would respond to a world with dragons. It's not merely a retelling w lizards thrown in but a story w new threads of tension & complications that make Lizzie and Darcy's dislike of each other novel and real -- and something that must be urgently overcome. The audiobook was a great listen -- and the story ends about a third of the way through - be prepared for a cliffhanger.

Ok, this is so-so. Kind of clunky like the author is trying to make things fit. There‘s also not as much world-building when it comes to the dragon part as there probably needs to be. You learn as you go, kind of. I think when you‘re working with already established material it can be hard but it needs to be done. As a warning, the book ends and Darcy and Elizabeth aren‘t together. You have to move on to book two for more of the story.

I was further along than I thought and it‘s just ended but Darcy has left with his baby dragon and the Bennett‘s dragon is a complete ass and is going to force Elizabeth to marry Collins. This is unacceptable. Also, now I have to read the second book. Dammit. #therebedragonshere

Ok, back on it. I‘m not hating it. It‘s kind of fun. Of course, I had low expectations and that helps. #therebedragonshere

I‘m over half way now. I‘m waiting for my bag at the airport and that looks like it will take a bazillion hours. It‘s not that bad of a book. Darcy is an ass. Elizabeth‘s family‘s dragon is an ass. He‘s gonna make her marry her cousin so she will be his Keeper, even though it makes her unhappy. I think Darcy‘s dragon may put a stop to it because she outranks the Bennett‘s dragon. But she‘s a baby dragon so who knows? #therebedragonshere

There are dragons and non-dragony people think they‘re things like birds and cats and who knows what else because I‘ve not gotten that far. But dragons! And some people can hear them. There was a war and now there‘s a peace treaty but someone has stolen an egg so I‘m guessing some shenanigans are about to ensue. I‘m boarding soon so I‘ll have to update when I get home. Officially giving up on this one today. I‘ve made it to Chapter Two and that has taken me a month. The writing is bland and uninteresting. I have no desire to subject myself to more. Another Austen adaptation with an interesting concept but poor execution. #disappointed I can‘t believe this has a Goodreads average of more than 4 stars. Did they pick up the same book?

Has anyone read this? I ran across it browsing Amazon. It has surprisingly good ratings on Amazon and Goodreads. Apparently, there‘s a whole series. I‘m curious, but wary. Thoughts??
