Loch of the Dead
Loch of the Dead: Frey & McGray | Oscar De Muriel
13 posts | 4 read | 1 reading | 10 to read
**PREORDER THE NEXT FREY AND MCGRAY ADVENTURE NOW** 'A hugely entertaining Victorian mystery' New York Times 'I enjoyed this - properly creepy and Gothic' Ian Rankin A mysterious woman pleads for the help of Inspectors Frey and 'Nine-Nails' McGray. Her son, illegitimate scion of the Koloman family, has received an anonymous death threat - right after learning he is to inherit the best part of a vast wine-producing estate. In exchange for their protection, she offers McGray the ultimate cure for his sister who has been locked in an insane asylum after brutally murdering their parents: the miraculous waters that spring in a small island in the remote Loch Maree. The island has been a sacred burial ground since the time of the druids, but the legends around it will turn out to be much darker than McGray could have expected. Death and increasingly bizarre happenings will intermingle throughout this trip to the Highlands, before Frey and McGray learn a terrible truth. Praise for the Frey & McGray series: 'I enjoyed this - properly creepy and Gothic' Ian Rankin 'A hugely entertaining Victorian mystery' New York Times 'This is wonderful. A brilliant, moving, clever, lyrical book - I loved it. Oscar de Muriel is going to be a name to watch' Manda Scott 'Fun to read and a fast page-turner. Love and murder - they go together like strawberries and cream' Independent 'A brilliant mix of horror, history, and humour. Genuinely riveting with plenty of twists, this will keep you turning the pages. It's clever, occasionally frightening and superbly written ... Everything you need in a mystery thriller' Crime Review 'Fast-paced, well-researched and thoroughly spellbinding. The mismatched pair is as entertaining as Holmes and Watson at their best' Historical Novel Society

Love this book. Fourth in the series of the Inspector McGray and Frey. Much more of a supernatural twist than previous books but still loved the story. The detail, characters and twisted storyline was perfect and it was a great book in the series. So many twists and turns towards the end that always had me guessing. Love love love it. Defo recommend.

Bk4 of my #24B4Monday #readathon is done. Bk4 in a series, about a reluctant partnership between a sceptical Scotland Yard detective & a belligerent Scottish Inspector who believes in the paranormal. Set in Victorian Edinburgh, it‘s hilarious & enthralling in equal measure. Like Rebus with a spooky twist. Loved it. #Booked2020 #TartanNoir #PopSugar20 #AtLeast4StarGRRating #MandMChallenge #Twins #ReadHarder2020 #HistoricalFictionNotSetInWWII👇👇

Bk4 of my #24B4Monday #readathon is also Bk4 in the Frey&McGray series. I started this the last readathon but wasn‘t in the mood for it then. Hopefully it sticks now coz I have Bk5 waiting and they‘re both due back! DI Frey & Inspector McGray travel to the highlands after a young heir is sent death threats. But before they arrive, his guardian is brutally murdered, someone wants the secrets of the Loch to stay buried. Mmm,Scotland🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Due to a combination of lots of reading for the #24B4Monday #readathon and very little sleep, I now have a large eye strain headache. Boo. So I‘m watching an episode(or two)of House before switching back to an audiobook & trying for some 💤 Wish me luck!🤞

jb72 Great time! I hope you feel better soon! 5y
Andrew65 Wow! 👏👏👏😊 Good luck. (edited) 5y

#24B4Monday #readathon checkin time. I‘ve almost finished ten chapters of the audiobook of Leviathan Wakes before switching to the print of Loch Of The Dead. I‘ve just had an hour break and made my special chicken stirfry(lots of fresh veggies, bean sprouts, noodles & chicken with my sauce of soy, hoisin, plum sauce, garlic & ginger)with fresh coriander right at the end. Eaten the right way with chopsticks. Yum. What‘s for dinner at your house?

Balibee146 I so want to read Leviathan Wakes 👍 5y
jb72 We may have leftovers and convenience for dinner tonight. 5y

It‘s 7.45am on Friday 22nd here so I‘m going to bed for a few hours before my eyes fall out of my head. Got in a fair few chapters from this, the 4th book in the Frey&McGray serie, a Victorian crime series set in Scotland. The detectives have been sent up north after the heir to a wealthy family was sent death threats, but they walk into more than they bargained for. #24B4Monday #readathon

Bk7 of my #LibraryHaul is Bk4 in the Frey&McGrey series. A young heir receives a sinister death threat so the unlikely partners head north to the remote & misty Loch Maree. But even before they arrive, the boys guardian is brutally murdered, someone will kill to protect the secrets of the Loch. I‘m really enjoying this series, it has a great balance of mystery & comedy with a huge dash of scottish charm.🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

ChasingOm I‘ve added this series to my TBR thanks to you! 5y

The 3rd in my #libraryhaul is Bk4 in the Frey&McGray mystery series. I‘ve read the 1st, am halfway through the 2nd on audio & have the 3rd as an ebook. In this, the detectives travel to the remote north highlands after a young heir receives a sinister death threat. Before they arrive, the boys guardian is murdered, someone is willing to kill to protect the secrets of Loch Maree. #Scareathlon #TeamSlaughter 1point #PointsTotal-280

I stumbled across this book in a second hand book shop. I liked the storyline (set in the Scottish Highlands) and loved the cover! It was great and is in fact the fourth book in this series. I will definitely get the first three now. #books #bookcovers #crimebooks
