Excellent book, highly recommended. It might be an uncomfortable read at times, but that's a good thing. I will definitely check out more from this author. Really like the cover design too.

#weeklyforecast hope to finish Longbourn and Harry Potter this week. Loving the writing of Sugar but am finding it a disturbing subject. I am taking my time with the non fiction book.

Sace Ooops! #bookspin has helped my summer reading too! 4y
Erinsuereads I missed so much of bookspin and haven't been able to figure out what it is or where to start but it looks so fun! 4y
Sace @ErinSueMreads oh but that's the beauty of bookspin! You can jump in any month! @TheAromaofBooks runs it. Basically make a numbered list of 20 books. She pulls a number on the second of every month. There's also a #doublespin if you want to knock off two books. Some people do all 20! (They are my heroes!) I hope you'll join for July and beyond! 4y

Trashcanman @ErinSueMreads what it is party people! 4y
TheAromaofBooks @ErinSueMreads - yes!! @Sace is completely accurate!! Anyone can join any month, or take a few months off, or just whatever works. It's the world's most laid-back challenge!! 😂 Just let me know if you want to be added to the list of people I'll tag to remind them about joining us in July, and let me know if you have any questions!! If you scroll back through my feed you can also find some more info, although it's a bit buried right now!! 4y
BookwormAHN Thanks for the tag 😺 4y
Erinsuereads I mean if @Trashcanman says I should I must! Add me to the list @TheAromaofBooks !!! 4y
TheAromaofBooks @ErinSueMreads - haha okay, you are on the list!! I usually tag everyone in a reminder post about a week before it's time to draw the numbers (which I draw on the 2nd of every month), so expect a tag sometime towards the end of June!!! 4y
Sace @Trashcanman @ErinSueMreads we party hard. (I also nap hard) 4y
Sace @BookwormAHN you're welcome! 4y

Time to read this. I had the privilege of hearing the author speak in prepandemic days.

Two author events in one week at our local independent bookstores!! Great to hear Crystal Marie Fleming as well as Michael Knight speak about their work.

An important book that‘s definitely needed right now. No matter if you‘re orange, yellow, brown, green, black, white, or purple, this is an important read. No one can claim not to see color, or not to claim privilege. Being American gives you certain privileges. Being male gives you certain privileges. It‘s how we use and share our privileges that matters, and how we open up the systems that have excluded others for so long.

I‘ve been a longtime follower of the author on Twitter & was so happy to read this book. Fleming is that friend you‘ll invite to a coffee date knowing that they‘ll call you out for bad behaviour and then you can get into a passionate discussion about systemic issues. Love that.

Required reading if one of your reading resolutions is to take in more of others‘ perspectives. Only you can do that work for yourself.

This should be required reading. This challenged me personally to do better (she pulls no punches for liberals, don't pick it up expecting to be offered cookies for not being a nazi) and really provided structure to some concepts that had been floating around in my thoughts but was having a hard time sorting out coherently.

This was a well-written Sociology-based book about racism in the US. It contained a lot of great info. I had a bit of an issue with her, "my way is the right way" attitude, but that could also be a result of my uneasiness with how the book made me feel. Definitely not a light read. And a couple of the chapters made me realize I don't know shit about politics.

I'm loving the casual tone in this Sociology-based book about racism.

I've only read the introduction and I'm already calling this one of the most important books on racism this year.

Just started this and oh wow I am into it!

Weaponxgirl Looks great! And I get so frustrated with the love argument. Like cool come at dismantling the systems that keep racism in place from a place of love but love on its own ain't gonna do sh*t. 6y
