This one took me SO LONG to finish, basically because it was reserved as my bath book. I really enjoyed it though. The author‘s take on the Reynolds scandal was fascinating and would make a lot of things seem to make sense, if it were true. Not sure I‘m quite convinced though.

Procrastinating, instead of putting a load of washing on and opening my laptop to start work. I know I‘m being a dick to future me, but present me is pretty chill tbh. #rubikscube #speedcube #procrastinating #chill

Chrissyreadit Nice!! Do you do the other types of “cubes” and challenges? 2y
Connster @Chrissyreadit I‘m quite new to this tbh! I only learnt how to solve the cube in August, so I‘m just playing at getting quicker. I might move on to other kinds when I get better 😊 2y

I think I won this as a goodreads give-away. It was pretty good. I really didn‘t know anything about her. Now I know a little. A woman with a strong sense of family. But I don‘t feel like I know a lot more than that. I did like the author‘s voice.

Life in America at this time was NO JOKE, even for “aristocratic” families like hers. Grief, death, lack, the need for courage, scandal, & so much followed her everywhere. Yet she remained devoted to her husband and family and devoted to God and her faith. And many times, following her grief which she was no stranger to, she worked tirelessly to see things she believed in materialized. Written to complete the picture of Hamilton family, it shines!

I think I would like to give this a try! Realistically, I think I am going to aim for a double spin. In my dream of dreams, I think I might strive for a #BookSpinBingo.

The first full length biography of a remarkable woman, which in itself is crime. For that reason alone this book is brilliant. It does though present Eliza as the wife of Alexander. She is seen in his reflection, bourn out by how little of the book focuses on the 50 yrs Eliza lived past her husbands death. The family's relationship with slavery is glossed over & at times there feels like too much of the writer filling in the gaps herself.

This is a really well executed book. I was thrilled to see Eliza's perspective after all the attention on her husband from Miranda's phenomenal musical. This might not get your toes tapping like the musical, but I tore through it quickly finding it difficult to put down. I'll be on the hunt now for the rest of Mazzeo's books.

This book is a biography but historical fiction would be a more accurate description.
