Sort of a companion piece to the Tough Guide to Fantasyland I recommended yesterday. The book is set in a magical realm where ‘Pilgrim Parties‘ are held - those being made up of tourists from other worlds who want to do a stereotypical high fantasy quest. Wizard Derk is designated as the ‘Dark Lord‘ this year, much to everyone‘s horror as he‘s not at all suitable, and it all starts going wrong from there.
Hello, my litsy lamb chops. This is just a reminder that in this crazy world of ours, there are still books out there that when we open them, breathe them in, and begin to explore their worlds again, we can slip on a sense of security and calm and well-being, just like slipping on a well-loved sweatshirt. Yesterday we took a trip to Orlando for my birthday and one of our stops was Writer‘s Block bookstore, where we picked up these lovelies! My partner also pre-ordered Gaiman‘s Make Good Art while we were there.
It was an awesome indie bookshop, and the tagged title is a very original childhood favorite I‘d been seeking for years. ^_^
Today‘s #newyearreads prompt is “written by deceased author”. I own more books by DWJ than any other author. And I adore them all. Not shown: The Dark Lord of Derkholm (because my daughter has it in her room)
Dark Lord of Derkholm looks like a funny, loving satire of high fantasy tropes, but it's also a really kind look at who gets to be a family. #jubilantjuly
